Chapter 0118
Mary and Peter went to their appointment with the gynecologist. Everything was going well; the gestational sac had grown a few more millimeters, and everything appeared to be under control. They asked the doctor if it was safe to take long trips. Peter was overly cautious and didn’t want to miss a single detail, especially with Catherine’s birthday just around the corner and the drive being quite long
After leaving the appointment, they strolled through the streets near the hospital. Mary had woken up with an uncontrollable craving for strawberry cake, so they were on a mission to find the treat that had her mouth watering. Lately, Mary had developed a serious sweet tooth, indulging in anything sugary, which had caused her to gain a little weight. To Peter, though, it only made her more charming
“Mary, look! Here’s a bakery!” Peter said, pointing at shop.
“Let’s go in!” Mary said enthusiastically.
Inside, they found a variety of cakes in all sorts of flavors. Though she had been craving strawberry cake, the sight of carrot cake, fruit cake, and others made her salivate. Seeing her reaction, Peter ordered one slice of every flavor she liked. By the time Mary was happily enjoying her strawberry cake, Peter was loading ten boxes of cakes into the car.
Mary sat at a small table by the window, watching Peter diligently stack the boxes into the car. She
smiled, and a strange sensation warmed her from deep within.
“Baby, we’re so lucky! Your future daddy loves us so much,” she said softly, resting a hand on her belly.
She gazed at Peter with adoration. In just a month, he had been steadily winning her heart with his care and attentiveness. She recalled her first impression of him and couldn’t help but laugh at how wrong she had been. She had sworn she’d sleep with her bedroom door locked around him, and now, here they were, sharing a bed every night. Her cheeks flushed at the thought.
“Beautiful, how are you doing? Any other flavors you need?” Peter asked, sitting across from her.
Mary snapped out of her thoughts and blushed as she looked at him.
Judging by that look, I know what you were thinking Peter teased with a playful smirk.
“No! Of course not!” she protested, her face turning crimson.
“Can I have a bite of your cake?” Peter asked, glancing at her plate.
“Of c course!” she said, offering him a spoonful.
After a while, they left the bakery and headed home. Peter retreated to his study, intending to work, but oddly enough, he felt drained. He eventually wandered to the bedroom, where Mary was resting. Seeing her, he climbed into bed and cuddled up beside her, wrapping an arm around her waist and resting his hand on her belly.
Mary marveled at how involved Peter had become in her pregnancy. He seemed to be unconsciously experiencing some of her symptoms. Normally a very active man, he had grown fond of curling up her for naps. He also shared her love for sweets and had become noticeably lazier on some days.
That afternoon, their nap was interrupted by the sound of a phone ringing–it was a video call from

Catherine. She seemed surprised to see Peter and Mary lying together in bed but chose to pretend she hadn’t noticed.
“My dears! How are you?”
“Hi, Grandma!” Peter answered with a yawn, leaning closer to Mary and waking her with a kiss on the check.
Mary stirred, stretching like a cat. When she realized they were on a video call, her face turned bright red. They both knew their relationship was obvious, but they hadn’t shared the news with Catherine yet.
“Grandma! How are you?” Mary asked nervously.
“Not as well as you two, from the looks of it!”
“What’s going on, Grandma?” Peter quickly changed the subject.
“As you know, my birthday is coming up. This year, I want something intimate, just close family. I’d love for you to come next weekend. It would be wonderful to see you both on Friday if you can make the time.”
“Of course, Grandma. Let me check if I have any meetings or commitments, but if possible, we’ll be there Friday,” Peter replied.
“Thank you, my dears! And don’t be such sleepyheads–it’s 4:00 p.m., not bedtime!” Catherine teased, trying to pry into their situation without being too obvious.
“No, Grandma, you know how Peter is…” Mary started, trying to deflect.
