Chapter 0133 

After what felt like an eternity of driving, Peter arrived at the emergency room. Philip Hill was already waiting for him. As Peter opened the passenger door to help Mary out, Philip stepped forward and said urgently: 

“Your grandmother filled me in on everything. Come on, let’s not waste any 

time!” 

Peter placed Mary onto a gurney, where nurses quickly surrounded her, checking her vital signs and preparing her for a thorough examination. When Peter tried to follow, Philip stopped him. 

“Peter, I know you’re worried, but she’s in our hands now. Let us do our job,” 

With that, Philip disappeared into the emergency room, leaving Peter standing at the threshold. Restless and agitated, Peter paced back and forth, his anxiety bubbling over. He hadn’t anticipated the day taking such a devastating turn. With no other options, he pulled out his phone, searched for a contact, and dialed. 

“Marcus, something’s happened..” Peter said, his voice shaky. 

“Peter, what’s going on?” Marcus asked, alarmed. 

“Mary’s grandfather just passed away. They came to my grandmother’s house and took him.” 

“Who? I don’t understand. Calm down and tell me what happened.” 

Peter struggled to find the words. The love of his life was in the emergency room, at risk of losing the baby he had already come to love as his own. And now, there was the death of Albert–someone he had barely gotten to know but whose loss was already weighing heavily on him. The thought of how deeply this would hurt Mary overwhelmed him. He felt helpless in the storm of emotions crashing down around him. 

Meanwhile, at the Financial Crimes Investigation Unit, Maximus and Leonard waited for a resolution. The officer in charge had requested a direct family member to identify and claim Albert’s body, but with Mary hospitalized, there was no one available. As a result, they were denied access to the remains. 

Upon hearing this from her son, Catherine was enraged. She demanded that Leopold drive her to the unit. An hour later, she stepped out of the car, her heart broken but her head held high. Determined, she resolved not to leave without Albert’s body. 

“Mrs. Catherine, what brings you here?” asked an agent who recognized her. 

“Agent Manny Count, I’m here for Albert Preston’s body,” Catherine replied coldly. 

“Ma’am, give me a moment. I’m not familiar with the case, but let me look into it and see what I can do.” 

“Thank you, Agent Count. Your assistance will not go unappreciated,” Catherine responded calmly. 

“Don’t worry about that. Please, follow me.” 

As she entered the area where Albert’s body was being held, Catherine found Maximus and Leonard, their faces marked with surprise.

“Grandinal What are you doing here?” Maximus exclaimed, taking her hand. 

“There are things your grandmother can and must st do. Albert Preston was my… friend, and I cannot allow him to remain here a minute longer. Too much is already been taken from us today. I won’t leave until he’s with me,” she said, her voice trembling with tears. 

Catherine wasn’t just mourning a friend; she was grieving for the man who had loved her for the past three years. Memories of their bond flooded her mind as she stood there. Though they’d been just friends at first, their relationship had gradually blossomed into something more. Her heart was shattered. Decades ago, she had lost her husband when he left her for another woman, choosing to think of him as dead to avoid the pain. But now, the man she hadn’t dared to marry 50 years ago was truly gone. 

Agent Count returned, holding a folder in his hands. Approaching Catherine, he said, “Mrs. Catherine, I’ve reviewed Mr. Preston’s file and found several irregularities. I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but it seems someone high up manipulated things to ensure this arrest happened as it did.” 

“What are you saying?” 

“Someone targeted him directly. I can’t give details, but it’s clear this file was fabricated. Until recently, there was no record of Mr. Preston in Valentia.” 

“That doesn’t make sense! They stormed into my house with a warrant–I saw it!” 

“I know, ma’am. I saw it too. But until a few days ago, that warrant didn’t exist. Five years ago, there was 

a record, but strangely, there’s no follow–up data until very recently. I also see that Mr. Preston has no immediate family here besides Mary Preston.” 

“Yes, but she’s unavailable–she’s in the hospital after the shock of all this. And she’s pregnant!” Catherine exclaimed. 

“I see. Please, come with me. Let’s see what I can do.” 

Two hours later, Catherine emerged, her face showing signs of tears. She announced to Leonard and Maximus, “We can leave now. I’ve taken care of everything.” 

Her voice was steady, but it was clear how much she had been crying. The situation was heart- wrenching, but now it was time to begin the arrangements for Albert’s funeral. 

“Children, I’ve spoken to Leopold to ensure Albert is given a proper burial. He deserves dignity in his final farewell.” 

At the hospital, Peter anxiously awaited news about Mary. At last, the door opened, and Philip stepped 

out. 

“How is she? How’s Mary?” Peter asked, his voice laced with desperation. 

“Peter, she’s stable now. We’ve stabilized her and are moving her to a room.”
