Chapter 0175
Maximus opened the email and read the girl’s response. Once again, he found himself surprised. Not only did she know who he was, but she was also confidently proposing to work for him. It seemed his reputation as a “cradle robber” hadn’t reached her ears–a relief, though her boldness made him skeptical. He didn’t know much about her: where she was from or who she was, but one thing was clear
she was genuinely interested in his company.
At the bottom of her email, he noticed she had signed with a name different from the one she’d initially given him. She had also included her phone number, a clear indication of her interest. The name struck him it was the same as his niece, the one he’d been searching for and who should be around the same age. The coincidence lingered in his mind. It was late, though, and he decided to call her the next morning. After finishing his drink, he headed to bed.
The next morning, Serenity woke up and eagerly checked her email. No response.
“Serenity, what are you thinking? He’s probably a busy man. Just wait. He’ll respond eventually,‘ she reassured herself.
She got up and went downstairs, where her Aunt Regina was already in the kitchen with breakfast ready
“Good morning, sweetheart! How’d you sleep?”
“Morning, Aunt Regina! Pretty well. I was just up late checking emails for my photography work.”
“Oh, I see. Well, I just got a call–I need to head into the office for an emergency. I waited for you to wake
up so I could let you know. Sorry I can’t go out with you today!”
“No worries! Just tell me how to get to these places,” Serenity said, showing a list of locations on her phone. “I was planning to visit them anyway to take some shots. I’ve already got orders for a few photo campaigns.”
“Wow, sweetie! You’re really taking this work seriously. I thought you were here to relax.”
“No way. I have a few shots already sold, so I just need to make sure I have time to finish them. Plus, I might have a new job lined up–fingers crossed! I’m still in talks, though,” Serenity said, her eyes shining with excitement.
“It must be something special, seeing you this thrilled” Regina said, noticing the spark in her niece’s expression.
“It’s not set in stone, but I’m hopeful. If it doesn’t work out, that’s fine–there will be other chances.
“Well, my love, I have to go now. You’re a responsible girl, but don’t stray too far and be cautious around strangers. Not everyone’s a harmless lamb–there are some wolves out there.”
“Don’t worry! Go, I’ll be fine. I’ll message you updates on where I am.”
“Perfect! I trust you, Serenity.”

After breakfast, Serenity cleaned the dishes, showered, and dressed comfortably: jeans, a loose shirt, and sneakers. She packed her camera in her bag and set out to explore Madrid’s picturesque streets.
Serenity’s beauty was undeniable, a mix of her parents‘ best features. She had inherited her mother’s delicate facial structure, her father’s height, and her maternal grandmother’s striking gray eyes and smooth, warm complexion. Her dark hair and piercing gaze gave her an extraordinary allure. Thanks to Marcus and Mary’s upbringing, she was confident, resourceful, and unafraid of challenges,
Her independence shone through. Unlike many her age, she didn’t shy away from traveling alone. On the contrary, she relished it, despite her mother’s occasional protests. Valerie, haunted by her own experiences at that age, often grew anxious at the idea of Serenity living on her own. Just hearing her daughter mention “moving out” made her skin crawl.
This was Serenity’s second solo trip. Her first had been to a magical little town in Hesperia, but this was another country entirely, and she took extra precautions. While friendly, she remained guarded. Yet, strangely, she had felt an inexplicable sense of trust with the man she’d met at the airport. She chalked it up to his charm and the fact that he was undeniably handsome.
Serenity was wandering near the Real Casa de Correos, searching for the Kilómetro Cero plaque, the symbolic starting point of Spain’s roads. Just as she found it, her phone buzzed in her pocket. She paused, pulled it out, and answered.
“Serenity…”
“Hello, Serenity–or should I call you SeBaTer?”
“Oh! Hello, Mr. Palmer. How are you?”
“I’m well, thank you. I just finished a meeting and was about to grab lunch. I wanted to discuss your email and thought of inviting you to join me. Are you free?”
