Chapter 0180
Following her instructions, they headed to the emergency wing. Upon arriving, they were directed down a hallway where Leonardo’s legs nearly gave out at the sight of Mary sitting on one of the chairs. She looked utterly shattered, her face streaked with tears. She was accompanied by an older woman and a man in a suit.
“Mary! Mary, my dear, how is Peter?” Leonardo asked, still in denial. He assumed Peter had been in an accident but hadn’t yet grasped the truth.
Maximus, on the other hand, felt a heavy weight in his chest. Seeing Mary in shock, unable to respond, made the reality sink in. He crouched in front of her and pulled her into an embrace. For a moment, she didn’t react. Then, she broke down, sobbing uncontrollably–a raw, guttural grief Maximus had never heard from her before.
“Mary, please try to stay calm! You’re pregnant! Your baby can’t handle this stress–please, for the baby, don’t cry!” Maximus pleaded as he held her, gently stroking her hair. To his surprise, his own tears began to flow.
“Where is my son?” Leonardo demanded desperately
“Mr. Palmer,” said the suited man, stepping forward. I’m Darius Richards, Peter’s lawyer and friend. I spoke to you earlier. We’re waiting for Mr. Bartz to arrive. Until then, we can’t proceed with anything related to Peter.”
“What does that damn man have to do with this?” Leonardo snapped.
“Mr. Bartz is the legal executor of all matters concerning Peter. Even I cannot proceed without him- those were your son’s wishes.”
Maximus released Mary and rose to speak to his father
“Father, calm down, or you’ll make yourself ill. We need to wait for Bartz to clarify everything. In the meantime, we should think about how to break the news to Grandma. If you don’t think you can do it, I’ll handle it…” Maximus offered.
“No, son. This is my responsibility. Your grandmother adored Peter. I don’t know how she’ll take it.”
Maximus clenched his fists, frustration bubbling within. The thought of Peter granting someone else control over his affairs after death–leaving the family out entirely–infuriated him. Family should have been there for him, even if they hadn’t been close.
Leonardo reluctantly dialed the number he had dreaded calling.
“Leonardo, my dear! To what do I owe this early morning call?” Catherine answered cheerfully.
“Mother… where are you right now?”
“I was about to have breakfast. Why? Your tone is making me nervous,” Catherine said, her intuition picking up on his unease.
“There’s something I need to tell you…” Leonardo began, his voice faltering,

“Leonardo, what is it? Tell me! You’re worrying me.”
“It’s about Peter…”
“Let me guess. You fought with him again? Honestly, you need to accept that your son is a free spirit and prefers to live his life that way,” she said dismissively
Hearing this, Leonardo broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.
LET
“Leonardo, what is going on?”
“Mother… my son is gone. Peter is dead.”
“Leonardo Palmer, stop saying such nonsense! I saw him yesterday–well, via video call–but we spoke just yesterday,” Catherine said angrily.
