[Present day in Westhaven, Valentia)
Valerie felt restless. Marcus had rushed out in a hurry for work, leaving her worried. He hadn’t even changed his clothes, leaving in casual attire, grabbing only his coat, and disappearing like a man possessed.
From a young age, she’d developed the habit of drinking milk when she couldn’t sleep. Following that ritual, she went to the kitchen, poured herself a glass, atid grabbed her shawl before stepping out into the garden. She reclined on the lounge chair by the pool, sipping her milk and thinking back to the day Marcus returned the cameo that had been in the Preston family for generations. One day, it would belong to Serenity when she was older.

After Marcus explained what had happened with Olsen, Valerie felt calmer and slowly gave in to his comforting embrace. Marcus, for his part, felt a sense of relief. He’d been waiting for the right time to talk to her about his past, and without planning, he’d done it. There was only one secret he intended to keep–his slowly unfolding revenge against the Amato family.
After sitting by the lake for a while, Marcus pulled out his phone and called Frederick.
“Frederick, I think you’ll have to go to the meeting alone. I’m taking the day off…”
Frederick immediately understood the situation. He just hoped the pair wouldn’t complicate things for each other. He knew his boss could be stubborn, and from what little he knew of Valerie, she was equally headstrong and prone to impulsive decisions.
“Marcus, you need to go to that meeting! You can’t miss it you’re closing the contract with them,” Valerie said, worried about Marcus’s decision.
“It doesn’t matter. What really matters is right here, beside me,” Marcus replied, gazing into her eyes and tilting her chin up to kiss her.
Blushing deeply, Valerie murmured, “Marcus… thank you for what you’re doing today.” She smiled shyly at him.
“Hey. I have something to give you. Come with me!”
“Marcus, but-”
“Besides, we have the whole afternoon free! I’ll take you home by 8:00 PM, like always.”
“Alright!”
They got into Marcus’s car, and he began driving toward his house. Valerie had never been there before. At work, no one knew where Marcus lived–they all assumed he had penthouse in Altavista. She was stunned when they arrived at an elegant white house with a classic design. The exterior was beautiful, and the lush gardens were breathtaking. Inside, the rooms were spacious and impeccably decorated, leaving her in awe.
“Welcome home,” Marcus said, snapping her out of her amazement.
“Your house is beautiful!” Valerie said sincerely.
“Thanks! I bought it a couple of years ago, right after we reconnected. I wanted a place to settle down where I could visit Serenity.
“It’s such a lovely and spacious home!”
“You and Serenity are welcome to come and stay here anytime you want.”

His words made Valerie nervous. Was he inviting her to live here? What was his intention? she wondered.
“Valerie, come to the study. I have something to give you!”
“You’re keeping me in suspense. What is it you want to give me?” Valerie asked, feeling overwhelmed by the day’s whirlwind of emotions.
