Chapter 0024
-Major Flashback-
That July 17 had come to an end, and Maximus returned with a girl, eternally grateful for giving him one of the best days of his life.
“Mary, I had a wonderful time today, but I need to check my emails, so I won’t be having dinner. You can join Emma. I’m heading to the study.”
“Sure! No problem. Would you like me to bring you a sandwich?”
“No need!”
“I think you’ll want it. I’ll bring it just in case you get hungry.”
“Okay!”
Maximus went into his study and started reading his emails. Suddenly, one caught his eye. It wasn’t work- related, but it piqued his interest. When he saw the email address, all his attention focused on i
[Hi Maximus,
How are you? I hope you’re doing well. After a long time abroad, I finally returned. I’m not sure if y have the same phone number, so I’m writing you here. I know you always check your emails.
still
I hope we can chat soon. Here’s my phone number. Call me, and we can catch up if you’re still interested in talking.
Best regards,
Alexia Levett.]
A flood of memories came rushing back to Maximus. Things hadn’t ended well between them when they were young, but she was his first love–and apparently, his only one. Though he had gone on dates with other women, they were just casual, mostly involving sex, and sometimes a repeat, but none of them. became important. It was as if he’d been waiting for her all this time.
After thinking it over for a few minutes, he decided to call her.
“Hi, Alexia.”
“Maximus?”
“Yes. How are you?”
“Maximus! I didn’t think you’d call so quickly! I’m so happy to hear from you. I knew sending an email was the right choice.”
“You know I’m always busy, but I’ll always make time for you.”
“Maximus, you’re still such a gentleman. Do you have any plans tonight?”
“No, I was just checking my emails.”
“How about we meet at the usual bar?”

Chapter 0024
“When?”
“In an hour, if that works for you.”
“Sure! No problem!”
Maximus grabbed his car keys and left, excited to meet Alexia. Meanwhile, Mary was still over the moon about the day she had just spent with that handsome man. Her luck seemed to be changing, and her grandfather had been right–she needed to find a way to make her birthday wish come true.
Maximus arrived at the bar they used to frequent when they were young. It was still open, but the crowd had changed. Now, the place was filled with people Mary’s age, which made him think of her again. A smile crossed his face as he remembered how she looked when she was eating her hot dog.
“With that smile, you must be thinking about the love of your life?” A woman’s voice spoke in front of him.
“Alexia!”
“Hi, darling! It’s been so long! You’re just as handsome as ever–no, actually, you look even better. I think the years have been kind to you!”
“Coming from you, I’ll take that as a compliment,” he said, a bit shyly.
“Come on, Maximus! Aren’t you going to give me a hug? It’s been seven years, and you’ve already forgotten how to greet me?”
That hug stirred up a lot of emotions for Maximus. It brought back feelings that had been dormant for a long time. Her perfume took him back to a time when the only worries were finishing homework assignments.
“How have you been, Alexia?”
“Really good! I just got back, and you’re the first person I reached out to!”
“I can’t believe it!”
“Believe it! Most of my friends don’t even know I’m back yet, but I wanted to tell you first.”
“Do you
you want me to order the usual?”
“Sure! But have you noticed how this place is full of kids? It feels like we don’t fit in anymore. Want to go somewhere else before we order?”
