Matthew checked his emails and found Alexia’s resume. Her experience was impressive–she had worked for some prestigious companies in Franconia. He couldn’t understand why she had decided to return to Valeria when her future seemed so promising abroad.
He consulted HR, but unfortunately, there were no current vacancies unless Maximus wanted to create
one.
“Matthew, there are no vacancies, but if Mr. Palmer insists, we can create one.”
“Is that possible?”
“Yes! He’s a demanding boss, and we could use another assistant. I know you handle a lot, and the other three assistants are overwhelmed with their schedules. The best option would be to consider a new assistant. What do you think?”
“Let me consult with the boss and get back to you.”
Matthew wasn’t thrilled about creating a position, but he knew Maximus. Even if it meant firing someone else, he would find a way to give Alexia a job. After all, Maximus had secretly been waiting for her for the past seven years.
“Sir, I’ve checked, and there aren’t any vacancies. But we can create a new assistant position.”
“Okay! Will that cause any issues down the road?”
“I don’t think so. Your assistants could use the extra help. The only thing is, once Mrs. Palmer finds out who’s filling the position, things might get difficult.”
“Okay, Matthew! Go ahead and open the position, and have Alexia start tomorrow. As for my grandmother, well, tomorrow we’ll unleash all the demons from hell, but I’ll deal with it.”
“Very well, sir! No problem. You can let Miss Alexia know her position is confirmed. Have her check her email for the details.”
“Thanks, Matthew.”
Maximus knew that once his grandmother found out Alexia was joining the company, she’d be furious. But he couldn’t let the woman he was still deeply in love with slip away again. He was willing to face anyone who didn’t accept it.
“Alexia, everything’s set. You’re starting tomorrow at the company as one of my corporate assistants.”
“Really?”
“Of course! I promised, didn’t I?”
‘Thank you so much, love! I knew you’d help me get through this rough patch.”
“It’s been a long time since I’ve heard that word.”
“What word? Love?”
“Yes!”
“I only say it to one person, and that’s you.
Maximus felt like he was floating. The feelings he had when he was younger came rushing back as he saw the love of his life, held her, and heard her call him by the name she used to
Night fell, and they went to bed together, or at least they tried. When dawn arrived, Maximus got up and dressed. This time, he couldn’t stay any longer–he had to go home and change. Today, he felt more energized than usual. Alexia was still asleep, so he kissed her cheek to gently wake her. Slowly, she opened her deep blue eyes.
“Good morning, lovel
“Good morning, my dear!”
“You’re leaving already?”
