Chapter 0315
After a long drive to pick up both of his daughters, Maximus arrived at Palmer Group. When he pulled up, the valet opened his car door. Normally, these routine actions went unnoticed, but today, Maximus took in every detail. He knew that by returning everything, it would soon be clear who would assume control of the company.
“Come on, Dad! Let’s go–it’s time!” Laura said, tugging on his arm.
Laura wanted to walk into the massive building arm–in–arm with her father. For Maximus, it was the first time: he had seen his daughter grinning from ear to ear as they arrived. Normally, she attended these monthly visits quietly and out of obligation, but today she was genuinely happy.
Serenity walked beside them, and Maximus couldn’t have been prouder of the two beautiful young women by his side. The receptionist, however, was stunned. She recognized Laura as his daughter but had never seen the dark- haired girl before. Maximus’s affectionate demeanor toward her sparked rumors in her mind. “This will get juicy when Mrs. Palmer finds out,‘ she thought.
Maximus and his daughters entered the elevator reserved for the CEO. The hallway was eerily empty, likely because everyone was already waiting in the boardroom. For the first time, Maximus was 15 minutes late to a shareholders‘ meeting. Taking a deep breath, he exhaled slowly.
“Alright, girls. Let’s go–they’re waiting for us,” he said calmly.
When Maximus opened the boardroom door, all the Palmers were present, including Alexia, who hadn’t been invited. Upon hearing about the meeting, she had decided to show up anyway, assuming her invitation had been misplaced. Arriving early, she had seated herself next to her “supposed husband.”
Valerie and Marcus saw Serenity walk in alongside Maximus. Already irritated, Marcus scowled and clenched his fists. ‘What the hell is my daughter doing next to that bastard?” he thought. The two men locked eyes across the table, each seated at opposite ends. Their wives sat beside them. Maximus turned to Alexia with a cold expression and said:
“Alexia, this is a shareholders‘ meeting, and as far as I know, you don’t own any shares in the company. Why are you here? The company doesn’t pay you an exorbitant sum to waste time.”
Alexia, seeing him holding Laura’s hand, pursed her lips and replied:
“Maximus, this company is as much mine as it is yours. My children are part of it. I may not be a direct shareholder, but I look after their interests. Is that a problem?” she said with a tone full of arrogance and confidence.
“Well then, you have two choices: either I reschedule the meeting elsewhere, or I call security to escort you out,” Maximus said, glaring at her.
Alexia was shocked. Maximus had never acted this way before, even during their worst arguments. True, she hadn’t seen him in days, but surely this wasn’t significant or was it? Feeling humiliated and knowing that Maximus always followed through on his threats, she had no choice but to leave through the door leading to the CEO’s office. Maximus paid her no further attention.
Once she was gone, Leonardo spoke up:
“Maximus, why did you speak to your wife like that? She has every right to be here for your younger children.”
“I’m also their father, so I can represent them. Now, let’s not waste any more time. Why don’t we take our seats and start the meeting?” Maximus said, sitting down and gesturing for Serenity to take a seat near her parents.
Laura, meanwhile, sat where Alexia had been. She wasn’t fazed by her mother’s departure; she had seen them. fight for years, and this was nothing new. They must’ve argued that’s why Dad hasn’t been home,‘ she thought.

“My apologies for the delay and the unfortunate incident celler. Let’s begin,” Maximus said, his tone carrying an odd sense of satisfaction.
“Maximus, why is my daughter here?” Marcus asked, his fists clenched, glaring at him.
Maximus returned his gaze peacefully and said, “You’ll find out shortly.
Valerie, sitting silently beside Marcus, could feel the anger radiating from her husband. She was frozen, unsure of how to respond. Internally, she cursed herself for not telling Marcus earlier that Maximus wanted to hand over Serenity’s inheritance. “It must be about that. Stay calm, Valerie–he promised you,” she reassured herself
Maximus began recounting the company’s origins, nearly repeating the same words Catherine had once spoken. Laura, Serenity, and Lucius listened intently, as this was all new to them. Valerie, however, already knew this part of the story, though she had never seen a penny of what was rightfully hers. One of the reasons she had returned was her and Marcus’s belief that the Palmers would never return her rightful share. Now, Maximus was handing it over without resistance.
“This scumbag must have some dirty trick up his sleeve,‘ Marcus thought bitterly.
After several minutes, Maximus turned to Serenity. This was her moment. Though it pained him not to call her ” daughter,” he took solace in knowing she would always have him as family. For now, she would know him only as
an uncle.
“Serenity Bartz Hunter, you are the daughter of my brother Peter Palmer. As such, 11% of the company’s shares belong to you. Additionally, your grandfather, Leonardo Palmer, who is here with us today, has ceded 5.5% of his shares to you during his lifetime. These shares, meant for Peter’s children, are now yours as his only daughter, totaling 16.5% of the company.”

“Father, the two clauses you requested have been fulfilled. She is here, and this is the DNA test as proof.” Maximus handed over an envelope containing a signed, sealed report from the DNA testing clinic.
Leonardo was stunned. His granddaughter, whom he hadn’t seen since she was five years old, was now a stunning young woman. He searched her face for traces of his son but found none. Her height was a clear trait from Peter, but her beautiful features were her mother’s. Her eyes, however, unmistakably belonged to Catherine. He was
certain of it.
As Leonardo read the report carefully, a smile spread across his face.
“My dear, we finally get to meet you!” Leonardo exclaimed, joy lighting up his face.
For some reason, Serenity didn’t feel the same trust with Leonardo that she did with Maximus. Something about him felt off, as if a warning bell in her mind told her not to trust this man.
