Chapter 0322
Serenity’s POV
Minutes after hearing Marcus, Maximus, and Lucius discussing a DNA test, Serenity realized they were talking about her test. She had set all of this in motion, naively trusting that giving that cursed sample wouldn’t lead to chaos.
A sharp pain hit her chest as she turned to her mother, whose anguished expression only deepened Serenity’s guilt. She looked over at her father–the man who had care for and protected her, the man she loved deeply–and saw his face twisted in a mix of anger and disappointment. She had no words for it. She had never seen him look at her mother like that before.
In all their years together, her parents had seemed inseparable, their love unshakeable. She’d never seen any signs of violence or even harsh words between them. But today was different. When her mother tried to reach for Marcus’s hand, he pushed her away with a look of disdain. The sight broke something in Serenity.
As the words flew back and forth, Serenity watched in horror as her loving father shoved her mother. Marcus, the man who had always preached love and patience, had pushed Valerie. “What have I done?‘ she thought, her mind spiraling.
From the corner of her eye, Serenity noticed her mother pleading for them to leave. But her instincts rebelled. She didn’t want to leave. She wanted answers. She wasn’t a child to be shielded from the truth anymore. Why couldn’t they see that?
Her vision blurred with tears, and her chest felt tight, as if she couldn’t breathe. She glanced at Maximus, who was watching her with anguish in his eyes. He wanted to come closer, but Marcus struck him before he could take a step. Serenity felt a wave of despair. Could neither of them see the pain she was in?
Beside her, a kind blonde figure–Laura–held her in a comforting embrace, but it wasn’t enough to ease the crushing weight in her chest. She had lashed out at her mother in her frustration, and now Valerie was nowhere to be seen.
Then Maximus stormed out, dragging a blonde woman with him. Serenity recognized her as his wife from the magazines. The scene felt surreal, almost detached from reality. But it wasn’t. It was happening right in front of her, and she was part of it.
Moments later, the sound of a glass shattering pulled her attention back. Laura had dropped a glass and collapsed from the emotional weight of it all. Serenity immediately called for help, relying on Marcus, the one person she could count on in moments of crisis. Together, they revived Laura, but soon after, Laura left, her mind seemingly set on confronting something–or someone.
Laura’s POV
For Laura, one thought burned in her mind: Serenity was her sister. After years of feeling alone, knowing she had a sister felt like a gift, not a curse. It was the one bright spot in the midst of this storm.
But the reactions of those around her left her shaken. Lucius, the brother she had trusted implicitly, now wore a grin of twisted satisfaction. The sight made her stomach tum. How could he find joy in the destruction of two families?
Her gaze shifted to Serenity, who sat trembling, lost and overwhelmed. Laura didn’t hesitate. She rushed to her side and wrapped her arms around her, offering what little comfort she could. For Laura, scenes like this were painfully familiar. But for Serenity, it was all new–a descent into chaos she hadn’t been prepared for.
Then came the revelation: Lucius wasn’t her brother but her uncle. Laura felt the world beneath her crumble. It was a betrayal so profound it knocked the wind out of her. She blacked out, only to wake moments later with a
