Chapter 0326
Marcus stormed toward Valerie, gripping her waist tightly and lifting her off the ground. Her tear–streaked face met his fiery glare, and Maximus’s pained expression wasn’t far behind. Marcus’s mind raced with a flood of chaotic thoughts.
“Valerie, haven’t you had enough? Hasn’t today been enough for you? Answer me!” Marcus shouted, his voice filled with raw fury.
“Marcus, let me go! Please, you’re hurting me! I don’t like how you’re holding me–you’re hurting me!” Valerie cried, fear flashing in her eyes,
Maximus immediately stood and moved to help her, but one of Marcus’s bodyguards stepped in, blocking his path.
“Sir, it’s best you stay out of this and let my boss leave with his wife,” the guard said firmly, his tone making it clear he wouldn’t allow interference.
Marcus was unraveling. His day had spiraled from bad to worse, starting with the revelation that Serenity wasn’t Peter’s daughter, but Maximus’s. The man he despised most in the world had been tied to his family all along And now, after searching frantically for his wife, he found her in Maximus’s arms. His rage boiled over as he roughly dragged Valerie away.
“You and I need to talk. We’re not going home tonight,” Marcus said, his voice cold and final.
Valerie shivered as a chill ran down her spine. She recognized that look in his eyes–the same look she’d seen the night Peter died. Back then, Marcus’s fury had been directed at the Palmers. But now, it was aimed at her. Nothing good could come from this.
“Marcus, please, just let me go,” Valerie begged, her voice quivering.
“Oh, I’ll let you go, but in the car,” Marcus snapped, opening the door of his SUV and shoving her into the back
seat.
A bodyguard slid into the driver’s seat, rolled up the privacy window, and locked the doors, leaving Valerie effectively trapped. Marcus didn’t get in right away. Instead, he turned and walked back to where Maximus stood.
from my “I’m going to say this one last time,” Marcus said, his voice low and menacing. “Stay the hell away family. If you don’t, there will be consequences. I’ve been patient with you and your disgusting family for too long. Don’t push me. Your father, your wife, your precious little ‘brother‘–they’re all on my list. But you? If you so much as look for Valerie or Serenity again, I might just take it out on your daughter.”
“Bartz, you son of a bitch!” Maximus shouted, panic evident in his voice. “Leave Laura out of this! Don’t you dare hurt Mary either! Don’t you-
“You know what you need to do to keep your daughter safe,” Marcus interrupted, cutting him off. “And as for my wife… Hurt her? Do you think I’m like you? With what moral high ground do you lecture me? You’re the one who hurt Valerie first. Don’t you dare tell me how to treat my wife.”
Without another word, Marcus turned his back on Maximus and strode toward the SUV.
Once inside, he slammed his fist against the glass partition, signaling the driver to start moving. Valerie sat in the backseat, a trembling mess of tears. The man sitting across from her felt unfamiliar, almost alien, and it terrified her.
“Valerie… I was really worried about you,” Marcus said flatly, his tone devoid of any warmth.
“Oh, were you?” Valerie retorted bitterly. “You didn’t seem too worried earlier when Alexia was all over you. Did you even think about me then?”
