Chapter 0333
After nearly being strangled to death by her husband, Alexia shockingly returned to the mansion. It was clear that many things were about to change drastically. A few hours earlier, Leonardo had made it clear that he wouldn’t help her at all. Lucius had only advised her to leave the house and find somewhere to hide from Maximus’s wrath. But Alexia did the opposite. She knew Maximus wouldn’t come home–or so she thought. What she didn’t anticipate was that her husband, the man she had deceived for years, would send someone for her that very day.
Fresh out of the shower, Alexia was drying her hair. She wore an elegant red silk nightgown, refusing to believe the storm heading her way. She was confident that, just like before, Maximus wouldn’t harm her. But this time was different. She was terrified when she heard footsteps, and her blood ran cold when her door opened. Two burly men dressed in black entered her room. She tried to scream, but one of them quickly silenced her.
When she woke up, she was dazed, sitting on a chair. Her hands and feet were tied, and her mouth was gagged with a cloth. No matter how much she screamed, no one could hear her. Her shock only grew when she saw Maximus walk in. She still believed she had been kidnapped and that he was there to rescue her–as if that could erase everything bad that had happened.
Maximus gave her a cold stare, then sat down in a chair placed in front of a small table where he set his laptop. He looked at her again and said:
“Alexia, you must be wondering what you’re doing here. Let me explain. A few weeks ago, I started to wonder- what do you do all day? Your staff does all your work, yet you make more money than them. So, what do you do with that money?”
Alexia knew exactly where this was headed. He already knew everything. It wasn’t that her husband was clueless- it was that he’d never cared enough to investigate her before.
“I had you investigated, Alexia,” Maximus continued. “I have 37 folders here, one for each year. I’ve only read through 16, and what I’ve found is shocking. For instance, when you were about to return to Valentia, you were with my father. Why the hell, if things were like that, did you come looking for me? You could’ve stayed with him. No one would’ve found out. Why did you seek me out? With him, you had everything. I was starting something new with Mary. Damn it, Alexia! I was already forgetting you….”
Alexia’s eyes filled with tears. She knew exactly what those folders might contain. It wasn’t just infidelities. It wasn’t just that two of her children weren’t Maximus’s. There were two or three things in her past that could never see the light of day.
“How much dirt surrounds you, Alexia?” Maximus demanded. “You weren’t like this. You were an incredible girl when you were 16. What the hell were you thinking, getting involved with Gabriel and following him to Paris? Damn it, Alexia! You had everything here. I loved you. I would’ve walked through fire for you. Why did your leave with that bastard? I wanted to marry you back then, but according to you, we were too young And yet, you were having an affair with that man. Then you moved on to my father. My God, Alexia! My father is 20 years older than you. What did you see in him? His money?”
Alexia struggled in her chair, her face streaked with tears. She wanted to speak. Her beautiful face flushed red, though Maximus couldn’t tell if it was from shame or frustration.
“I’m going to take off that gag,” Maximus said. “But I want answers. And you should know something–we’re far from civilization. So, no matter how much you scream, cry or thrash around, no one will help you. You’d better stay quiet unless I ask you something. And don’t lie to me. Your life depends on it. I’ll know if you’re lying”
Maximus got up from his chair and removed the gag. Alexia immediately started talking.
“Maximus, I don’t know where you’re getting all this, but I swear none of it is true. I love you! You love me! How else do you explain all these years together? Our love is twisted, but we both are. Our children are proof of our
