Marcus chose not to interrupt his girls and instead went to fuck John in. Afterward, he headed to the master bedroom, took a shower, changed into his pajamas, and lay on the bed. The past few days had been exhausting. 

When he first entertained the idea of returning to Valentia, he never imagined it would be so complicated. His plan had seemed straightforward–destroy the Palmer family, reclaim what rightfully belonged to Valerie, and avenge Peter against the Levetts. It had all sounded reasonably simple. But now the plan had taken several unexpected turns, leaving no clear path.forward. He couldnt even control the present situation, let alone what came next. He wondered if he truly wanted to tear down what the Palmers had built with such effort. 

“What are you thinking about?” Valerie’s sweet voice broke into his thoughts. 

Marcus snapped out of his reverie and looked at her with love. “Nothing, sweetheart. How did it go with Serenity?” 

Valerie smiled softly and wrapped her arms around him, resting his head against her chest. “It went well. I feel much calmer now, Marcus.” 

Marcus exhaled a long breath. “That’s the sound I like to hear. I hate seeing you worried.” 

Valerie tightened her embrace and kissed the top of his head. “You smell so good.” 

In a swift motion, Marcus pulled her onto his lap. “You know you make me so happy, right?” 

“And you make me just as happy,” she replied with a radiant smile. 

For a moment, Marcus hesitated, then confessed, “Earlier, lied. I was thinking about something. I don’t know how to continue. We came here seeking revenge, and now look at all the mess the Palmers have dragged us into!” 

“Do you want us to go back to Hesperia?” Valerie asked, intrigued. 

“No! But right now, the only Palmers left here are Maximus and his children. Leonardo and Lucius managed to slip away, but we’re still hunting for them,” Marcus said, locking eyes with her. “What do you think, my love?” 

“I think we’ve been through so much in just three weeks. We need to carefully think about what we’ll do next. We just got here, and moving the kids again might do more harm than good,” Valerie said thoughtfully. “By the way, when we first arrived, you said there was something you wanted to show me–something related to that briefcase Frederick gave you. With everything that’s happened, we’ve left it aside, but maybe it’s time to look at it. Don’t you think? I’ve never known what really happened to my parents, and maybe there’s information about them in there.” 

Marcus had been avoiding opening the briefcase. After learning about the connection between Leonardo and Lucius, he knew it wouldn’t hold anything good. But now that Valerie brought it up, he couldn’t dodge the subject 

anymore. 

“What do you think about taking a full week off with the kids?” Marcus suggested, trying to redirect the conversation. “I’d love to take them on vacation to Santorini. It’s a beautiful place. What do you think?” 

Valerie felt a pang in her chest at the mention of Santorini. The only time she had been there was during her honeymoon–a trip that hadn’t ended well. In fact, it was the catalyst for her decision to divorce. 

“Santorini? Why there?” she asked, her tone guarded. 

Marcus noticed the shift in her mood and quickly offered alternatives. “We can go anywhere else. It’s just that I have a house in Santorini. But we could visit Amalfi instead or any place you choose. Think about it and let me know. Does that sound good?”
