After the inevitable reunion with his brother, Maximus were home with his children. As strange as it seemed, he was still in shock. His children spoke excitedly, telling hill the details of their first day, but he, unfortunately, was still in a daze. He couldn’t believe that the brother he dwed more than a thousand apologies and forgivenesses to was alive. What he couldn’t comprehend even more was all the suffering Peter had endured–spending five years in a hospital, then rehabilitating, only to realize that his life would never be the same. It was all a damn nightmare in Maximus’s eyes. 

Peter’s answers left him with more questions than clarifications. Where had his poor brother been all these years? Why hadn’t anyone noticed he wasn’t dead? Why was he working with Theodore? What did Marcus Bartz or Frank Levett have to do with him? These were questions only Marcus could answer, but asking them might alert the man, breaking his pact with his brother. Maybe one day, if Beter allowed it, Maximus could try to untangle this 

mess 

“Dad? Dad? Are you there?” Laura asked, seeing that her father was lost in thought. 

Maximus shook his head and looked at Laura with uncertainty. After a few seconds, he smiled and said to all his children: 

“How about we go for some hamburgers?” 

They all got excited, especially little Maurice. But Laura, knowing her father well, knew that it wasn’t the hamburgers that had him absent. Something was going on in his mind. She had seen him at his worst, and she didn’t want him to go through that again, so she made it her mission to figure out what was bothering him. 

After a few minutes of driving, they arrived at the bar where Maximus had been earlier with Peter. The kids felt like grown–ups because it was a bar, but since they were accompanied by an adult, they were allowed in. They ate and shared everything again. Maurice and Paul said their first day had been amazing, although, without admitting it, the change had done them a lot of good. 

Laura, despite being close to the end of the semester, had no objection to changing schools. She had previously been bullied by Audrey Brown, something she had never told her father, but now that she was in this school, things were different. That very day, she had met a very attractive boy in her class. The young man had taken the trouble to show her around, giving her a tour of the classrooms and various activities that young people her age could participate in. Although the semester was almost over, she still had to choose extracurricular activities. 

She decided not to tell her father about this. She didn’t know how he would react if he found out she had a boyfriend or suitor. In the last few days, she had noticed a radical change in her father. To him, she was still a little girl. 

“Well, kids, it’s time to go. You need to get started on your homework,” Maximus said, looking at his children.
