Peter started walking down the same hallway he had come through. He quickly arrived at Celeste’s room. She was still asleep, but as he sat on the sofa beside her bed, she seemed to feel his gaze and slowly began to wake up.
“Pe… Peter, what time did you get here?” she asked, her voice groggy
“Not too long ago. How are you feeling, love?” he replied, testone soft.
“I’m fine, I think…” Celeste said as she tried to adjust her position.
Peter placed his coffee cup on the small table in the room and moved closer to her. Gently, he cupped her chin and gave her a warm kiss on the lips. One of his hands played with her hair and caressed her cheek. After the tender kiss, he rested his forehead against hers.
“I missed you all day,” Peter murmured, their faces inches apart.
“Peter…” Celeste began, her voice barely audible.
He slowly pulled back and said, “Celeste… your injuries are going to take at least six months to heal. You live so far away, and there’s no one reliable to take care of you. Your check–ups would have to be done here, and the doctor who operated on you is one of the best. He’s the same one who treated me after my accident.”
He paused, nervous, before continuing. “I want to propose something, Celeste. I want you to come live at my house”
Celeste stared at the man in front of her, her heart racing. She silently questioned how she should respond. He was right she wouldn’t be able to move easily and would only cause more trouble if she went back to Seaforth. But living with him? Wouldn’t that also be a burden?
“Celeste… what do you think?” Peter asked, his nerves evident.
“I don’t want to be a burden. I don’t want to be a bother to you. We’ve only just started getting to know each other. Why do you want me to live in your house?” Celeste said, confused.
“Celeste, my love… I’ve told you from the beginning, life has taught me to follow my instincts and not waste time doubting. I want you by my side. I’ve told you that before, but now I mean it even more. I want to take care of you, and I won’t feel at peace if you’re not close to me–especially in the state you’re in.”
“Peter…”
“Besides,” Peter added with a smile, “Spike is already making himself comfortable in Ethan’s room. He doesn’t seem to mind sharing the bed.”
“How is Ethan? How are the kids?” Celeste asked, her concern evident.
“Thanks to you, they’re all fine. But right now, you’re the most important thing–your recovery and rehabilitation.”
“Peter, if I go to your house, what would that mean for us?
“It would mean you’d be closer to me, and I’d be able to take care of you and protect you directly. You living at my house would mean whatever you want it to mean. I won’t pressure you, but it makes me happy just thinking about seeing you every day. It’s all up to you.”
Celeste’s eyes widened slightly. “Let me think about it. I don’t want to be a burden, and in my current state, I really don’t see how I wouldn’t be. Besides, you don’t know me well enough to invite me into your home like this, Peter. What if I’m a serial killer trying to lure you in?”

“Celeste! If that were true, from what I see, you can’t even move, so I think I’ll take my chances.”
Celeste laughed softly, and Peter could see that he was convincing her. He knew better than anyone that he needed her close now more than ever. She was the one keeping him grounded. Her presence was helping him remember- though the memories came flooding back, meeting her and sharing moments with her had been the trigger.
With Celeste, he didn’t have to hold anything back. He could be himself–the Peter he used to be.
