Peter continued, his tone soft but firm. “Celeste, I want you to keep painting. You have a gift, and you need to nurture it. I’d love for you to take some courses, to practice more. For now, the only thing you should focus on is getting better.”
“Peter… I don’t know how I’ll manage being away for a while, And what about my job?”
“Well, you could always quit. For now, it’s time to focus on your recovery, Later, we can think about your next exhibition or maybe finding a job at an art gallery,”
“Peter, those kinds of jobs aren’t easy to get. You need a lot of experience and connections.”
“I don’t see the problem. If you’d like, I can recommend you to some people I know. I’m sure we can find something that fits your skills.”
Celeste stopped the wheelchair abruptly, her tone turning serious. “Peter… I know I need to focus on my health, but I have this strange feeling you want me to drop everything. And to be honest, that makes me uncomfortable. I know I don’t have much, but what little I have, I’ve built myself. I don’t want to lose that.”
Peter looked at her, seeing the determination in her expression. At that moment, he realized she was right. Everything he was planning was for himself, not for her. His rush to leave Valentia had made him selfish, focusing only on his own needs and ignoring Iters.
He crouched down in front of her, took her hands, and said, “Celeste, I want you to be with me. I want you to recover. Nothing would make me happier than seeing you walking again, doing what you love most. I’ve been expressing myself poorly. We’ll do whatever you want. All care about is that you’re comfortable, that you’re happy. If you’ll do me the honor of coming with me, I want you to feel at ease. Your recovery, no matter how long it takes, is what’s most important.”
“I know what it’s like to face a long recovery–endless therapy sessions and tests. The key to getting through it without losing hope is focusing on something you love. I don’t want you to think I’m trying to impose anything on you. I just want you to do what makes you happiest, what gives you life.”
“Peter…”
“Let’s get you home. You’ll see–Slovenia is beautiful, and there are so many places we can explore. I promise you, I’ll never stop supporting you. Once we’re there, I’ll find the best doctors to help you recover. And if you ever want to return here, we’ll make it happen. Whatever you decide, it’s your choice.”
Celeste’s tense shoulders relaxed at his words. What had first sounded like an orchestrated plan now felt genuine. Peter’s concern and sincerity were evident.
When they arrived at the airport, Celeste was taken aback by the formality of everything. She realized that Peter wasn’t just an ordinary man. Everyone spoke to him with respect and reverence. In contrast, he behaved like any other person, relaxed and approachable. She’d assumed they’d board a commercial flight and go through the usual customs process. Instead, to her astonishment, they were quickly ushered into a private hangar where a sleek jet awaited them.
Two hours later, the surprises continued. She’d expected a nice apartment or perhaps a grand house, something typical for a wealthy family. But as they approached the property, a man in a formal suit greeted Peter with a bow. After driving through a long, tree–lined path, the silhouette of a massive castle came into view. Celeste’s chest tightened with a mix of awe and nervousness. This was far from ordinary.
“Peter… What is this place?”
