“Alright, alright. This is as far as you can go. We’ll take her inside. Please wait in the waiting room. We’ll update you as soon as we can,” the doctor instructed. 

Peter held Celeste’s hand tightly as they wheeled her away, but as the stretcher moved farther, her grip slipped from his. 

Hours passed, and Peter sat in the waiting room, his mind racing. His phone buzzed, and he glanced at the caller ID Matthew. 

“Peter, are you out of the country yet?” Matthew asked urgently. 

“No, Matthew, not now,” Peter snapped. 

“Peter, I told you to leave within 24 hours. Frank Levett is looking for you, and he won’t stop until you return his daughter.” 

“I already told you I don’t have her! Right now, I couldn’t care less about that damned woman. Celeste is in the hospital. I only managed to tell her part of the truth, but not everything…” 

“Peter, you’re taking a huge risk for your family, and I understand that. But Maximus is doing everything he can to fix this mess. Alexia needs to stay hidden. As long as she doesn’t resurface, Frank will keep targeting you and your loved ones. You have to leave.” 

“Family of Celeste Mason?” 

Peter quickly ended his call with Matthew. 

“I need to go.” 

“Peter, wait, listen-” Matthew began, but the line went dead. Peter pocketed his phone and approached the doctor who had called out. 

“I’m… I’m Celeste Mason’s partner,” Peter said. 

“Sir, we’ve stabilized Ms. Mason. Both she and the babies are stable. It was a scare, but her blood pressure was dangerously high. She’s calmer now, but it’s crucial to avoid any further stress or emotional upset. She’ll need at least a week of complete bed rest. Her pregnancy is approaching a critical stage, so keeping her relaxed is imperative.” 

“Can she travel?” 

“Travel?” 

“Yes, we’re just passing through. I want to know if it’s safe to leave or if we need to stay here.” 

“Long trips are not advisable.” 

“What about by plane?” 

“Sir, her elevated blood pressure makes flying inadvisable. She needs absolute rest. The bleeding was caused by the pressure. If you can’t ensure a calm environment at home, she should stay in the hospital.” 

“Stay hospitalized?” Peter repeated, alarmed. 

“Yes. She’s stable and can go home, but only if you’re certam she’ll avoid stress and exertion.” 

“I understand,” Peter replied firmly.

Peter found himself at a crossroads. Ideally, they should leave the country, but after this scare, abandoning Celeste wasn’t an option. He could leave her with someone to care for her, but the thought of being away during such a critical time gnawed at him. On the other hand, staying put posed its own risks. However, Celeste’s secluded village seemed an unlikely place for anyone to search for him. If he kept a low profile and left his car elsewhere, he could blend into the community and ensure she was safe. 

After a final round of checks, Peter and Celeste returned home. Peter took care to ensure she didn’t walk, carrying her out of the hospital and into her house. Celeste didn’t protest, her worry for her babies outweighing any discomfort. 

“Thank you,” she murmured as he gently laid her on the bed. 

“You don’t need to thank me,” Peter said softly. “You know I’d do anything for you. Celeste, let me help you out of these clothes.”
