The morning sun streamed through the curtains of Celeste’s bedroom, gently waking her. Strangely, she didn’t feel the usual chill, and Spike’s small body couldn’t be responsible for such warmth. Her eyes widened as she remembered who was lying behind her. A sharp pang hit her chest, and with quiet movements, she slipped out of bed, careful not to wake Peter. 

Standing in front of the mirror at her vanity, she studied her reflection. Slight dark circles under her eyes betrayed her exhaustion, but overall, she looked fine. Taking a deep breath, she composed herself and left the room. 

Celeste called her boss, explaining her situation and carefully omitting certain details. Her boss, concerned, reassured her that her position was secure and offered support. Celeste had earned her colleagues‘ respect in her short time at the museum, thanks to her knowledge of classical painting preservation and her strong character. Entering the kitchen, Celeste was surprised to find Peter already there, cooking breakfast with the same expertise she remembered from the past. 

“Celeste, the doctor said you need complete rest. What are you doing out of bed? Go lie down–I’ll bring breakfast to you,” Peter said without looking up. 

“Peter, it’s not necessary. I’m fine!” 

“Do you want me to carry you back to bed? My children are my priority, Celeste. Don’t test me.” 

“Alright, alright, I’m going,” Celeste relented with a sigh.

Peter brought the breakfast to her in bed, one dish at a time, filling the room with the mouthwatering aroma of his cooking. As he set the plates down, Celeste’s senses were drawn to the food. It was as if their unborn children instinctively knew their father had prepared the meal. 

Peter sat beside her, cutting pieces of food and offering them to her. She grew nervous under his attentive gaze, but he waved off her protests, insisting it was for the babies, She couldn’t shake the feeling that it was more than

“Peter, thank you for everything yesterday. I was so scared that I might lose my babies again,” Celeste said, her voice tinged with sadness. 

“Celeste, I know I haven’t done things the right way. Instead of fixing my mistakes, I’ve been making more. But I want you to know that I’m here for you and for our children I’m not going anywhere.” 

“Peter,” Celeste said hesitantly, “yesterday, you said what happened with your ex wasn’t the only reason you left. Today, I want to hear the rest. I think I deserve the truth. If we’re going to coexist for the sake of our children, you should tell me everything.” 

Peter’s expression darkened as he prepared to unburden himself. “Celeste… this isn’t 

an easy story to tell. At the time, I wasn’t in a good place. I’d just discovered that my ex had married my best friend. I felt betrayed and angry, even though I didn’t want to admit it. 

“For years, I held back from seeking revenge, even though tore me up to see my brother living happily with the woman who caused my death–figuratively speaking. But eventually, I initiated an investigation into my family and the Levett family, hoping to find a weakness that would bring them down.
