Chapter 0628
Maximus arrived in Slovenia, where Peter’s driver was already waiting to take him to his brother’s grand estate. As they approached the enormous house, Maximus couldn’t help but admire its majesty, but he chose not to
comment.
“I hope your visit is short and that you’re not here to punch me in the face!” Peter said gruffly as he descended the staircase, clearly annoyed.
“Peter! I wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t created this mess,” Maximus replied, tossing a briefcase at his brother.
“Coffee or something stronger?” Peter asked, catching the case with a smirk.
“Coffee’s fine.”
“Let’s head to the garden. I need some fresh air.”
“What’s wrong with you? You’ve sounded irritated since I called.”
The brothers walked down a long corridor leading to an expansive garden filled with manicured lawns and vibrant rose bushes.
“Celeste…” Peter began.
“What about her?” Maximus asked.
“Things aren’t going well. Her recovery has been slow and painful. Seeing her like this breaks me. And now her school those bastards just fired her. It was easier for them to dismiss her than to cover the cost of the treatment she needs,” Peter said, his voice filled with anger and frustration.
“Peter, last I checked, you’re swimming in money. Remember? You don’t need to worry about the cost of her treatment. If you wanted, you could send her to the best hospital in the world, and they’d take care of her.”
“You think I don’t know that? The problem is, the dismissal email was sent directly to her. She tried to hide it from me. She wanted to negotiate, hoping they’d let her keep her job. She loved working there and believed she could return one day. She thought we’d eventually go back to Valentia and resume a normal life.”
“So, what’s really bothering you? Is it the dismissal, or is it something else?”
“I don’t know anymore!” Peter snapped, running a hand through his hair. “My mind is a mess. I can’t stop thinking about Mary. And even though Celeste is an extraordinary woman, something just feels… off.”
“You’re an idiot,” Maximus said bluntly.
Peter turned sharply to face him, his temper rising. “What do you mean by that? Explain yourself!”

“You don’t love Celeste. You never did. You took her as an easy way out. You’re using her to avoid confronting your feelings about Mary. And here I am, being called the heartless one, but look at you–manipulating a woman to escape your own fears.”
“Maximus! That’s not true. I care about Celeste!”
“Brother, you’re lying to yourself. Stop deceiving that woman. If you truly care, pay for her treatment, ensure she recovers, but let her go. Trust me, it’s better to end it now before it’s too late.”
“And what makes you so sure?” Peter asked, crossing his arms.
She “Because I’ve been there. With Mary. When we were younger, I was attracted to her–her eyes, her energy.
but I was unlike anyone I’d ever met. I enjoyed her company, but I didn’t love her. And I’m not proud to admit it,
