Chapter 0065
Maximus got up and took the first flight to Florentia. His wife had invited him to talk, and he wouldn’t let that opportunity slip by. Upon arrival, he drove as quickly as possible to Lunavalle. That particular day, the fields looked more radiant than ever. He was carrying a mix of emotions he couldn’t quite describe, but just hearing his wife’s voice and knowing he would see her today put him in a good mood.
Meanwhile, something stirred Mary awake. She wasn’t sure if it had been a dream or one of her usual nightmares, but she remembered talking to her husband. A pang of unease hit her stomach when she saw her phone on the bed. She quickly checked it, and sure enough, there was a missed call from Maximus. The realization banished any remaining sleep. She grabbed her robe and headed out to stroll through the mansion’s gardens. The morning air was cool, with a light breeze brushing against her skin.
Leopold, noticing a car approaching the mansion, went out to greet the visitor, assuming it was Mr. Peter -but it wasn’t.
“Mr. Palmer, we weren’t expecting you,” Leopold said visibly surprised.
It was still early, and Catherine hadn’t left her room yet. Leopold invited him in and said, “Mr. Maximus, give me a moment, and I’ll wake Mrs. Catherine.”
“Leopold, I’m not here to see my grandmother. I want to see my wife.”
“Oh, I see! Then allow me to fetch her,”
“Just show me her room, and I’ll go myself.
Leopold, slightly startled and conflicted, reluctantly agreed. There was no denying him that right.
When they reached her room, he noticed that Catherine had lodged Mary in what used to be her old guestroom from years ago.
“Miss Mary?” Leopold called as he knocked on the door.
He opened it and was surprised not to find her in bed. The window was open.
“Oh! She’s probably in the garden. She enjoys walking among the rose bushes.”
Maximus looked at Leopold and said, “Thank you. I’ll go find her.”
Sure enough, Mary was sitting on a bench, lost in her thoughts, staring at the horizon. She didn’t notice Maximus approaching until he sat down beside her.
“Mary!”
“Maximus…‘
“How are you? It’s a bit chilly. Wouldn’t you rather go inside?”
“I’m fine, thanks. I actually enjoy this cold–it helps me feel better, like it sweeps my anxiety away.”
“I see.”
“Maximus, let’s get to the point. Why are you here? What do you want to talk about?”

Chapter 006S
“I just wanted to make sure you’re okay. I didn’t want to call and upset you.”
“Oh, Maximus. I’ve thought about it a lot, and I know it’s not healthy to feel the way I do whenever I see you, Little by little, I’ve been learning to manage it. Maybe it’s the place, the change of scenery I don’t know. But honestly, I’m much calmer now, even with you here,” Mary said, turning to meet his gaze.
That look from Mary sent a pang through Maximus’s stomach. He knew the source of the pain was guilt.
“Mary, I’ve been looking into a few things. Why didn’t you tell me what happened the day we got married?”
“What was there to tell?”
“You never told me Alexia came to see you.”
