Alden and Serenity had a long conversation, during which the young man was honest and shared everything about his years with Peter. This sparked a genuine interest in the girl towards him. Inside Serenity’s mind, she reflected on her life. She had been so focused on her plans and projects that she had never really lost her focus on a guy. Of course, she’d been asked out before, but none of the boys who asked her seemed appealing. Her father had always set very high standards. 

Marcus had always been a true gentleman with both her mother and her–kind, loving, polite, and a gallant knight. When a young man would approach her to ask her out, they were usually boys her age who were driven by her beauty. They all just wanted something from her, which she knew all too well. She wasn’t stupid, so she avoided dating guys her age. 

She smiled to herself as she remembered the day she met Maximus. Initially, the man had seemed truly attractive, though at one point, she had a genuine interest. He distanced himself, and now she understood the reason. Now, with Alden, it was the same feeling. He was a little over three years older than her, divorced, and had a child. Every time she had the chance to talk to him, it was a delight. The young man had so many topics to discuss, he was physically attractive–something no woman would overlook–and he kissed like no one else. 

“Alden…” 

“What do you like in a woman?” 

“Excuse me?” 

“What kind of women attract you?” 

“How did we go from me being scared to you asking me questions like that?” 

“I’m still scared about our future and sad about my family, so I try to think about something else, like Alden’s story and interests….

Alden gave a small, embarrassed smile and looked at her. He was no longer holding her, just staring at her… 

“What do you want to know about me?” 

“What I asked…” 

“Well… I haven’t dated anyone in a long time, Serenity. My life is very hectic…” 

“But there must be some type of woman you like…” 

“I like women with character, women who are strong and have goals. I’m not looking for a damsel in distress, but I do like women who accept help…” 

“Physically?” 

“I don’t have a particular taste…” 

“Was your wife like that?” 

“Mmm… No. She and I met when we were very young. Back then, we didn’t really know who we were. We liked each other because we felt comfortable together, but as we grew older, we realized we had nothing in common, except for Ethan. Don’t get me wrong, we both love our son but she and I are completely different. Those differences made us say goodbye. Now, all that’s left is a fondness for that time and for our son, nothing like the woman I’m looking for now…”

“What do you like about me?” 

Serenity didn’t see that question coming. Her cheeks turned bright red, and her hands began to sweat excessively. She didn’t know how or why the young man beside her was asking that.
