Maximus left the room where Mary was. A strange sense of tranquility washed over him. Finally, he had said what he had never been able to tell her. The man wasn’t trying to get back together with her, he was seeking the best way to help her, the best way to make her see that everyone makes mistakes, that everyone has secrets, and everyone carries some burden. 

On the other hand, Valerie leaned her back against the pillow. That brief conversation with Maximus left her with an odd feeling. It wasn’t that she felt happy or sad, she just knew that a strange sense of peace had come over her. For a moment, she closed her eyes and recalled the story of the guy she almost cheated on Maximus with. She had never heard from him again, and she hoped he had done well in life. Maybe if Maximus hadn’t shown up at that moment, she would have ended up somewhere else, with someone else. 

After stopping by to see Mary, Maximus drove to Diana’s house. The girl was already waiting for him with dinner. He rang the doorbell and immediately heard the meow of one of her two cats. That brown cat had grown fond of him and seemed to recognize him. Even though it couldn’t see him, he could hear it standing by the door, meowing 

Maximus’s heart began to race as he heard Diana talking to her cat. When he heard the locks being undone, he flashed a wide smile. The door opened, revealing that beautiful woman who now stole his soul. It thrilled him; it was something he hadn’t felt in a long time. 

“Maximus…” Diana managed to say. 

The man lunged at her, stealing a passionate kiss. It had been such hectic days, and he hadn’t been able to see or hear from her. 

Maximus squeezed the small woman in his arms, and after breaking the kiss to catch his breath, he said: 

“I’ve had you on my mind since I talked to you…” 

“I missed you too!” Diana said, catching her breath. 

“You don’t know how much I need to be like this with you!” 

“Maximus… I can tell something’s off with you.” 

“It’s been a tough few days. I lost my house, had to send my kids away, and I handed over the presidency of the company to my father. Right now, I’m living alone in Redspire.” 

“If you want, you could live here… with me!” 

“Really?” 

“Of course! That way we can keep each other company… plus, I’ll have you closer… any day I can tie you to my bed and sexually enslave you for myself…” Diana said, smiling. 

“Are you sure about what you’re saying?” 

“I’m just kidding! Well, about the enslaving part, but yes, if you like, you can live here. The apartment is really spacious, and I feel so lonely here. Hey, why don’t we move away from the door?” 

“Oh! You’re right!” Maximus said, noticing they were still standing at the entrance. 

“How is your ex–wife?” 

“She’s fine… I know she’ll be okay. I know she seems a little confused right now, but she’ll be fine.”
