“It’s a girl?” 

“Yes! She’s a beautiful baby girl. Laura’s resting now, but as soon as she’s up, I’ll have her call you. Little Adele is officially a new Palmer.” 

“No, son. She’s not a new Palmer. You all are, and always will be, the Palmers. She’s the new Evans…” 

“Did you already change your last name?” 

“I’m working on it, Alden. Thank you for letting me know and for being there for your cousins.” 

“Of course. You know you never have to worry about that,” Alden replied, though he felt a wave of heat rising through his body. 

“Thank you, son. Hug my daughter for me, and tell her congratulations. I don’t know why she chose the name Adele, but it’s beautiful. When you can, send me a picture of my granddaughter. Wow… I’m a grandfather now. I can’t believe it!” 

“You’ll meet her soon, I’m sure of it.” 

“I hope so… Alden, how is everyone over there?” 

“We’re all fine. Don’t worry about us.” 

“I’m glad to hear that! I’m actually with your dad right now.” 

“Peter’s there?” 

“Yes, son. He just went to lie down for a bit–he had a slight headache.‘

Maximus didn’t mention Peter’s condition, knowing it would make Alden want to come back. There was nothing the son could do, and if Peter refused treatment, no one could force him. 

“Alright, Uncle. When he wakes up, please tell him to call me.” 

“Of course!” 

After ending the call, Maximus turned to look at his brother, who had been silently watching him. 

“Why didn’t you let me talk to Alden?” Peter asked. 

“Sorry, brother. I thought you were still asleep.” 

“I was, but your god–awful voice woke me up.” 

“Well, well! I must be talking to the rational Peter.” 

“You’re an idiot, Maximus.”
