“Fine. But only because the baby had a rough night.” 

“Sure, sure! Whatever you say. Even you don’t believe that. 

“Alden!” 

“Hey…” 

“Mmm?” Serenity mumbled, already half–asleep. 

“I love you.” 

“We love you too,” she murmured. 

The response snapped Alden out of his thoughts. He wanted to ask her what she meant, but by the time he looked over, Serenity was already fast asleep. 

“Serenity… Serenity… What did you say?” 

But no matter how much he tried, she was sound asleep, leaving him with a heart full of questions. 

[Peter’s House in Slovenia] 

“Miss Celeste, Mr. Peter isn’t answering. Would you like me to try calling him again?” Brock asked with genuine 

concern. 

“No, Brock. It’s as if he’s forgotten I’m even here. It’s been two weeks since he last came home. At the very least, I’d like to know if he’s okay. Honestly, I don’t even know what to think anymore…‘ 

“Please don’t worry, Miss. That’s just how the boss is. He disappears for days, but it’s never for anything bad. He buries himself in his work, and honestly, I’ve noticed he seems more at ease since you’ve been here. Without you, he’d probably just lock himself in his study and never come out.” 

“When Mr. Theodore, young Alden, and little Ethan lived here, the boss only ever came out of his study when Ethan dragged him out. He’s always been obsessive about work. He throws himself into his businesses with everything he’s got, and he’s been like this for as long as I’ve known him.” 

Celeste wanted to believe him, but a strange feeling had been gnawing at her for days. Something in her chest told her that things weren’t as simple as Brock made them sound. It wasn’t just a bad feeling–it was worse, as if something terrible had happened.

Marcus sat in the twins‘ room, cradling and feeding little Alberto. His sister, Carolina, had already eaten and fallen asleep. 

“I can’t tell you how good it feels to be here with my children, Camille.” 

“Marcus, justice was served, and now you’re back where you belong. All that’s left is for Valerie to return. You both deserve to be with your babies. Look at them–they’re beautiful, Marcus, your spitting image.” 

“They’re incredible. I can’t wait for the whole family to be together again. Do you know when Serenity and John are coming back?” 

No, Marcus. I only know what little Maximus told me. They went far away because of Leonardo, but I don’t know exactly where.” 

“That bothers me. That damned Maximus has control over the situation! I should’ve done a better job protecting
