Three hours had passed since they had stabilized Peter. When the nurse stepped out, she searched for the patient’s wife.
Maximus, who had been anxiously waiting, immediately pointed to Celeste.
He wanted to see his brother. He needed to talk to him.
But Peter needed to see her first.
Maximus knew that Celeste was the one who truly brought him peace—and right now, more than ever, that was exactly what he needed.
Celeste walked into the room, her eyes immediately finding Peter.
At first, his gaze was distant, unfocused. But the second he noticed her, there was a flicker of recognition.
"Celeste…!" he said in surprise. "You’re still here…"
Celeste crossed her arms. "Where else would I be, Peter? How could I leave when you’re in the hospital?"
Peter blinked. "I thought that…" He trailed off.
"What?" she asked, her voice steady, but her eyes filled with curiosity.
Peter hesitated, then shook his head. "Nothing… I’m just… really happy to see you here." He smiled faintly.
Celeste took a step closer. "When were you planning to tell me what’s been happening to you?"
Peter met her gaze and immediately knew—there was no escaping this conversation.
"How much do you know?" he asked cautiously.
"Maximus told me everything about your health," she said bluntly.
"Maximus is a damn blabbermouth!" Peter muttered.
"And you’re a damn idiot!" Celeste snapped. "Why didn’t you tell me what was going on?!"
"Celeste… I didn’t want you to worry!"
"Well, guess what? I’m even more worried now!"
She took another step forward, eyes burning with frustration. "You do realize you need this surgery, right?"
Peter looked away, jaw tightening. "Do you know what’s going to happen? Do you understand that I could lose everything? I might forget… everything."
"I know." Celeste’s voice softened. "But that’s not an excuse to risk your life. You don’t want to lose your memories… but you’re willing to lose your life because of it?"
She reached for his hand.
"*Peter, you’re not alone anymore. It’s not just you. My children and I—we need you."
Peter’s eyes widened. "Celeste… are you serious?"
She squeezed his hand. "I’ve never been more serious in my life."
"Does this mean… you’re giving me another chance?"
