Chapter 0802
Maximus took a deep breath, thinking for a moment while Alden went to the car to get Ethan. Watching him, he said,
“Serenity, like I said earlier, I’m probably the last person who should be saying anything. But I just want you to know one thing–no matter what happens, I will support you. It’s only now that I realize how much time has passed. I never got to see you as a baby, and I won’t miss the chance to be in my granddaughter’s life now. “You don’t see me jumping for joy, but I trust your judgment. If you chose Alden, there must be something truly special about him. I also know that you’ll be a great mother to that little one on the way. Now, let’s head inside- this cold air isn’t good for Ethan.”
Serenity hugged Maximus tightly. She understood how difficult this situation was for him. She and Alden both knew that, out of everyone, Maximus was the one who had the least room to argue. It was a cruel way to put it, but they needed to test the waters. Serenity knew Marcus could be understanding, but this situation was different. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust her father, but too many things had happened lately that made her unsure.
“Alright, Serenity, Alden–before anything happens inside, Alden, you need to talk to your father. He needs to see you and Ethan. He also has to know what’s going on. Peter is your father, and he deserves to know the truth.” “I know, Uncle! But you still haven’t told me what’s going on with him…”
“Alden, your father urgently needs surgery. Recovering his memory has taken a toll on his health, so it’s critical that he undergoes the procedure as soon as possible. We’ve postponed it, but he’s been waiting for you and Ethan to arrive. As soon as we get there, you need to go see him.”
“I understand, Uncle… Can Ethan go in?”
“It should be fine. But there’s something else you need to know…”
Maximus explained the risks of the surgery and what could happen if Peter didn’t go through with it. Alden immediately understood how serious it was. His father had to be operated on. He also realized that Peter needed to know about Serenity, the baby, and their marriage before anything else. He would be the second person they told the truth to–the first to know they were already married.
Alden had no idea how his father would react, but given the circumstances, he couldn’t keep it from him.
As soon as they stepped out of the parking lot and into the hospital, Serenity felt a tightness in her chest. With every step, she felt as if her feet were glued to the floor. In the distance, she saw a familiar silhouette–it was her mother, sitting next to a woman she didn’t recognize.
Maximus noticed the nervousness taking over Serenity. He gently took her hand and whispered,
“It’s going to be okay. You’re going to be okay. For your baby, you need to stay calm. I’m here if you need me. Just try to breathe.”
“Thank you, Maximus,” she whispered back.
Alden also held Serenity’s hand, something that didn’t go unnoticed by Valerie. The moment she saw it, she felt a terrible pressure in her chest. Something about that simple action wasn’t right. Just looking at the young man’s face, she knew exactly who he was.
“Wait here… I’m going to see Peter and let Marcus know so you two can go in. Alden, I assume you’ll tell your father everything?”
“Yes, Uncle!”

“Good…”
Valerie watched as Maximus let go of Serenity’s hand. She had a feeling he already knew what was going on, but she didn’t ask anything.
“Serenity, sweetheart…” Valerie said as she stood up.
“Mom…!” Serenity said, immediately letting go of Alden’s hand.
Valerie hadn’t noticed her daughter’s small baby bump until they hugged. It was impossible to miss. Serenity, in the excitement of seeing her mother, had forgotten about that tiny but undeniable detail–but Valerie hadn’t. “Serenity… What is this? What’s going on?” Valerie asked, shocked, her eyes filled with fear.
Serenity instantly noticed her mother’s reaction. Something in her gaze unsettled her. It wasn’t the same look of love she was used to.
