"Try to calm down, Serenity. It’s not good for you to cry, baby. I know you’re emotional, but you need to relax. It’s over now. If you feel like talking to Maximus, do it tomorrow.

"Maximus is a good man, and I know he understands that your parents didn’t act out of malice. They were just worried. Imagine, I even talked to my dad, and he himself let out a few curses at his own brother."

"Alden… It’s just that I felt bad for him. He’s going through a rough time right now, and the whole point of seeing him today was to try and help him feel better. But instead, I just made him feel worse," Serenity said, thinking about what Maximus had told her that afternoon.

"What’s going on with my uncle? Whatever it is, it’s his problem. It’s not something you should carry on your shoulders."

"I know we don’t keep secrets from each other, so I’ll tell you… Maximus was feeling restless today. He called me because he wanted to talk. I guess I was the only person who wasn’t around him, and he felt comfortable enough to open up."

"Well… he told me something delicate. It’s about Paul."

"What about Paul? Is this about that girl from the Maldives?"

"No… He confessed to me that Paul isn’t his son. He’s not my brother, at least not by blood," Serenity said, finally letting go of the weight she’d been carrying.

"What? How does he know?"

"Basically, he took a test a year ago and found out that, out of everyone, Paul wasn’t a match. And now, his real father has just shown up."

"Seriously? Why now? What does he want?"

"Yeah… From what I understood, Maximus had just met with Paul’s real father, and apparently, the man wants to meet his son. Maximus, on the other hand, is convinced the guy wants to take Paul to France. The man is from there—his name is Pierre Legrand Bouygues.

"Have you heard of him?"

"Yeah, I know who he is. He’s practically French nobility… How is he Paul’s father?"

"I have no idea, but it probably happened the way it always does…"

"My love! I meant, how the hell did Alexia end up with that man? Women have been trying to trap him for years, and none of them ever succeeded. It’s crazy to think she had a child with him."

"I don’t know him, but my dad looked genuinely worried. He thinks that with just a snap of his fingers, that man could take Paul away. And like you said, he’s practically royalty…"

"What does Maximus plan to do? Did he say?"

"Apparently, he agreed to let Paul’s father see him, but they haven’t set a date yet. And they have no idea what they’re going to tell him. Maximus said he’s going to discuss it with Laura and Lucius as well."
