The air in the carriage seemed to freeze.
As if Alan was still in the dream and not completely out of it, he just grabbed Lexie's hand without letting go, and his originally cold and sharp gaze slowly wandered away, looking at her as if he was looking at another person through her.
Lexie was too frightened to move and became more and more panicked.
"Mr. Alan, the hospital is here."
The driver's voice pulled back Alan's mind, and the moment he saw the woman in front of him, he almost immediately reverted to his cold appearance, speaking, "Get out of the car."
Lexie didn't dare to say much and grabbed her canvas bag, getting out of the car.
She watched the car pull away from the hospital entrance before she sighed in relief, heartily holding her wrist, which had just been scratched painfully, and moving it twice to make sure it wasn't broken.
The man even was horrible in his dream.
But she had just heard Alan shout a name 'Linda'?
On the other hand, after the car drove away from the hospital, Alan had been lost in thought.
The driver drove on, worried, "Mr. Alan, did you just have a nightmare?"
Alan's intense brows wrinkled, and his expression was cold and stern.
It'd been years since he last dreamed about that fire.
One's memories faded with time, and despite his deliberate attempts to remember over the years, he still couldn't stop those memories of her from weakening little by little in his mind.
He didn’t know when he hadn't been able to remember what she looked like, only the eyes blurred by tears in the blazing fire, the dreams ending abruptly whenever he tried to get close enough to see them clearly.
But just now, Lexie's face actually overlapped with hers in the sea of fire.
Thinking of this, Alan fiercely clenched his fists, veins rippling on the backs of his hands.
How did she deserve it?
"To the cemetery," the man's cold voice rang out from the back seat.
The driver froze for a moment, meeting Alan's stern gaze in the rearview mirror, his hand on the steering wheel shook slightly, "Okay."
"......"
Lexie spent the whole day at the hospital with her grandma.
The following day was Monday, and Grandma's surgery was scheduled for the early hours of the morning, and that was under help of Kevin, so she had to stay there tonight.
"Her temperature is normal, and without incident, we can operate normally in the early morning."
In the ward, Kevin personally took Grandma's temperature and came out and instructed Lexie on some pre-operative precautions.
"Don't give Grandma any food in the afternoon, there will be an enema at about 2:00 p.m. It will be a little rough, so tell her to be ready."
Lexie nodded, [I will talk to grandma]
"Right, you haven't had lunch yet," Kevin glanced at his watch, "Come on, let's go eat together."
Lexie shook her head and politely declined, [No, I have to stay with grandma.]
Kevin was about to say something else but a female voice came from behind him, "Kevin, you're here, I've been looking for you for half a day."
Hearing the voice, Lexie and Kevin frowned almost simultaneously.
There was no need to look, and they knew it was Edith.
[Dr. Stewart, you go ahead, I'll go in.]
Kevin pulled her back, "You have to have some food."
Lexie's footsteps lurched, and as she froze, Edith had already come up to the two of them.
As soon as Lexie returned to the ward, her grandma looked at her with a surprised face, "Why are you back? Didn't you go to dinner with Kevin?"
[How do you know?]
Lexie was stunned.
"Why don't I know? I asked Kevin to take you to dinner," Grandma looked smug, "Dr. Kevin is a good person, good looking, good in every way, more importantly I can tell he has a crush on you. Lexie, you have to take your chance."
Lexie hurriedly went to cover her grandma's mouth, [Stop that, it will tarnish Dr. Stewart's reputation. We have nothing to do with each other, you're overthinking it.]
What did Grandma think? Wasn't this a mess?
Seeing Lexie's anxious eyes, grandma stopped, but in her heart she was still very reluctant, "Lexie, don't think you don't deserve him, in my eyes, you are much more beautiful and excellent than that Edith."
Lexie shook her head helplessly.
It wasn't even a matter of being excellent or not, it was a matter of her already being married to Alan.
Grandma took Lexie's hand and lamented, "Lexie, you have grown up, you and your mother look much alike, both are beauties."
Lexie had almost no memory of her mother, she had only heard it from her grandma that her mother was knowledgeable, gentle and virtuous, the most excellent girl in the world.
[How did my mother die?]
At the mention of this, Grandma's face was stricken and suddenly fell into silence.
Just when Lexie thought that Grandma would again be as silent as before, Grandma suddenly said in a suppressed voice, "Because of a prescription."
A prescription? Again?
Lexie's heart stuttered and she looked at her grandma in a daze.
Grandma asked, "Lexie, do you remember what happened when you were a child?"
