"Why? How dare you even ask me that? I gave you a chance that day, but you insisted on getting a divorce! You even insisted that I return the money that belongs to Evie. Why should I do that?" Brian roared in frustration.
"When your husband passed away, I took you and your daughter in and provided you with everything you needed. What's wrong with me spending a bit of her money? You two are so ungrateful! Look at where it has brought me!"
Just then, a stranger's voice echoed from above.
"So, before Jane passed away, you had left the villa where you lived with your lover?"
Fear seized Brian.
"Who? Who are you?"
"The one who will judge you," the voice replied, "Here, only by speaking the truth can you find redemption. Otherwise, you'll be haunted by evil spirits and face eternal suffering!"
As soon as the mysterious voice said that, Brian, who had been digging a pit earlier, suddenly stopped and turned around, staring directly at him.
Henry, who had been lying on the ground, slowly got to his feet, blood dripping as he started walking toward him.
Gradually emerging from the mist were Linda and... Selina's family of three.
There were also some other vague figures lurking in the thick fog.
"Help! Somebody, please save me!" Brian panicked, unable to shake off whatever was behind him, unable to escape the water pit. He couldn't run away and could only watch as those figures approached him.
"Speak the truth, and you shall be free," the voice echoed once again.
Brian was terrified.
He quickly said, "I'll talk! I'll tell you everything! That day, I indeed went to meet Jane, careful to hide from the surveillance cameras..."
Time rolled back to the day of the incident.
Jane found herself with nowhere to go when she received a call from Brian.
"Jane, let's talk about the divorce again, just the two of us. I know I messed up by cheating, but after all these years together, I don't want us to end on a sour note," Brian said in a gentle tone reminiscent of his past self.
By the time they reached their destination, the skies were dark.
He parked the car, and they walked along a path overgrown with weeds as if they were just taking a casual stroll.
"Jane, do you really have to divorce me? I can stop seeing that woman..." Brian spoke with a hint of desperation in his voice.
"Not getting divorced is an option, too," Jane replied. Brian studied her.
However, she soon poured cold water on his proposal. "If you return Evie's money and give back what you took from me, then I might believe you don't really want a divorce."
"So, money matters more to you, is that it?" Brian questioned. "After all these years, haven't I treated you well enough? Whatever you wanted, I provided..."
"But the money you took away from me would have been enough for me to buy those things and still have plenty left!"
No longer love-struck, she could finally see everything for what it was.

The readers' comments on the novel: My Mommy Became A Billionaire After the Breakup
I am at Chapter 550 and there are almost 2 stories in 1. Aron and Evie's story could very well have been made into another story. Such a waste of time because I am reading for Byron and Athena, not Evie and Aron...
Is there no new updates after this one?...
