I turned to leave. There was no need for me to stay and be a third-wheel.
However, Hendrix suddenly called out to me, "Miss Reid, did you get the fruits?"
Stopped in my tracks, I looked over to my empty bag. "Not yet, but aren't you picking some with Miss Zanes? I don't think Master Attwood would need so many, so I think I should leave."
"Since you're already here and it's so hot, please pick a few more so we can all eat together. Right, Miss Reid?" Rowane spoke as she moved closer to Hendrix, showing off their intimacy.
I answered calmly, "Okay then, I'll pick some!"
I walked around the orchard and saw a sturdy-looking pear tree, its fruits well within my ability to reach for it.
Rowane lingered around me, like an unwanted shadow. Suddenly, her hand appeared out of nowhere, snatched a pear from the pile I had gathered, and took a bite. She winced in exaggeration, saying, "This is so sour, Miss Reid, Who'd eat this? It's such a waste!"
I dismissed her with a look and said, "If you don't want to eat it, then others will. If you think this is sour, then go ahead and pick your own fruit!"
Ignoring her, I looked around for another tree to pick the pears from. She then shouted loudly, "This one doesn't look too bad, Miss Reid, why don't you climb up and pick it!"
I looked up at the fruit tree that she was pointing at and pursed my lips. Was she crazy? There were many trees that were just a few meters tall so the fruits could reach the sun. However, such a tall tree was not that easy to pick from.
"I don't know how to climb trees!" I bit out and didn't intend to say anything more to her.
"Really?" She looked at me, surprised, "Mr. Roberts said that you used to live in the countryside when you were younger. And you can't even climb this?"
Speaking of Hendrix, where was he? I frowned and looked at her. "That's what Hendrix told you?"
