On the way out of the Granger Group, Hendrix and I had overheard some gossip along the way.
Our surroundings turned quiet the moment we entered the car.
Hendrix started the car, glanced at me, and said, "Fasten your seat belt."
As the car drove along, I took out my cell phone and texted Irvin asking him about the details of the flight the next day.
"Do the employees in your company bully you?" Hendrix asked suddenly. I was stunned by his question.
I shook my head. "No, what's the matter?"
He pursed his lips. "Is it common for them to gossip like this?"
"Yeah," I replied casually. Irvin sent me a reply about my flight details and a reminder of the things to bring along.
As I put my phone down, I saw that he was furrowing his brows together looking at me. I then explained, "Well, I was hired into the company by Irvin as a project director. Though it's neither a high nor important position, as someone who's worked in the Roberts Group for years and was also dismissed by them, it's not surprising to hear gossip."
When I first came into the company, I heard that people said that I was Irvin's mistress.
Speaking of which, I really did rely on my relationship with Irvin to land the job. All I can do now is to carry out my job well and produce great results for the company, or else I would really be seen as Irvin's mistress in the company.
Hendrix drove back to the villa in silence. He didn't say anything any more about the gossip but I noticed that his gaze had darkened.
He however brought up Nerissa and asked, "Did Aunt Nerissa talk to you about anything?"
