Hendrix frowned and pursed his lips. "Arianna, are you going to just treat me apathetically?"
I looked back at him and said, "You can choose not to eat or just order takeout yourself." Saying that, I turned off the fire on the stove.
He was stunned for a moment. Blocking my way of exit, he stroked my nose. "It's not that I won't eat it. I know it'll be nice since you cooked it."
Good heavens!
As expected, he just talked nonsense and found it was boring.
After Hendrix finished his meal, I left the rest of it alone and went straight to the bedroom to wash up and sleep. I was already feeling a little tired.
At midnight, I woke up groggily, disturbed by Hendrix's phone ringing. I was a little annoyed by it. Blinking my eyes open, I saw that he had picked up the call.
Realizing that I was awake, he lifted his hand to smooth and stroke my hair at the back of my head and asked, "Did I wake you up?"
I nodded. "Who's calling?" I looked at the time. It was three in the morning. Calling someone at this ungodly hour was mad.
He lowered his eyes and said faintly, "Andrea is going to give birth soon."
I was astonished. The date of her delivery wasn't near and the child was yet to be 9 months old, so how can she give birth so soon?
He was still holding the phone. Something that the caller said made him frown deeply. It looked like things weren't looking great.
"Madam Lawson, I'm sorry but I'm not in Jarold City at the moment!" Hendrix said softly.
Hendrix saw that I was looking at him and turned on the hands-free on his phone.
The imploring voice of Valerie could be heard from the other end of the phone. "Hendrix, Andrea really needs you now. There are still flights from Ucrebury to Jarold City. I'm begging you to come here. As long as Andrea gives birth to the child safely, I'll promise you whatever you want!"
