At the hospital.
I laid on the hospital bed. After Hendrix had left, Aaron came over and held my hand. "Getting smarter, aren't you? Setting yourself as bait to catch Calvin, are you trying to cut short your own life?"
With a faint smile, I lifted my hand that was wrapped up in bandages, and said, "It's just some scratches. After all, the goal had been achieved, am I right?"
He smirked. "If Uncle Charles and I weren't in Ucrebury, how did you plan to save yourself? Without any power, do you think that Calvin would be afraid of your husband who is only a businessman?"
I shrugged. "Aren't all of you here? I won't even dare to take such a risk if you guys weren't here with me."
I paused and asked, "What will happen to Calvin now?"
Aaron then told me, "He would either be sentenced to the death penalty or prison for life. He's bearing the loss of a few people's lives. Previously, when he was in Ucrebury, he had Arnold behind his back to protect him.
Now that Uncle Charles intervened in this matter, he has reported all of Calvin's wrongdoings. Arnold probably won't be able to get away so easily. Uncle Charles had a chance to hold a rein on the Moore family because of your move."
There were too many complications that I couldn't get myself to understand, but more or less, I could guess that Valerie and Arnold had a pretty close relationship just by judging by the money going in and out of their accounts. If they were to dig in further, I was pretty sure that all of their dirty work would be uncovered. By that time, Valerie would have no choice but to leave the Moore family.
Aaron eyed me for a long while before saying, "Are you satisfied now?"
I shrugged. "No, this is just the beginning. There's still a long way to go in the future."
Charles originally planned to head back after checking on some things in Ucrebury. I knew about Charles' packed schedule just before I agreed to meet Kelsey earlier that day. I had originally just planned to meet him for a simple meal.
Buzz! The lights were switched on. A nurse entered the room to give me another dose of medication. She could probably feel that the atmosphere was tense, which was why she hurried out after she was done.
I could see that his suit was a little wrinkled and there was weariness etched onto his face under the lights. His dark, intense eyes were a little bloodshot and red-rimmed. His lips were chapped, yet somehow he was still charming and graceful as usual, despite looking wretched.
I thought that as long as I didn't open my mouth to speak, Hendrix wouldn't either. I had never expected that he would be the first to speak. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Talk about what? I couldn't process anything to talk to him and was at a loss for words. Telling him that I planned and did everything on purpose?
Plus, I was pretty sure he figured out all of it when he saw Charles and Aaron.
After some contemplation, I pursed my lips and lowered my head, prepared to be scolded like a schoolgirl who was caught doing something mischievous.
