Nerissa was stunned. "Minnie, why did you come to Jarold City?"
"Mr. Hendrix and Arianna are both here. A few days ago, Arianna was injured, so Mr. Hendrix asked me to come over and take care of her. How have you...been these few years?"
Nerissa nodded and smiled at me, who was about to stand up and greet her.
"Arianna, where is Hendrix?"
I signalled Minnie to make tea before I looked at her and said, "Recently, there have a lot of things going on in the company. He hasn't been back for a few days now. Ms. Roberts, what can I do for you?"
When she heard me address her as Ms. Roberts with a distant tone, she frowned and said, "Arianna, are you still angry with me for what happened before?"
I smiled faintly and invited her to sit down. Then I said, "No, I'm just used to addressing you this way. Sorry, it came out naturally."
She sighed and said, "Arianna, do let go of the past. I am a daughter of the Roberts family. Your aunt was injured many years ago and became infertile, and as you know, I may not be able to give birth to a child too. Thus, Hendrix is our only hope for a descendant. After your child died in that accident, Andrea came to me and said that the child in her belly belonged to my family. As an elder, I couldn't just stand by and do nothing. So I didn't want to leave a descendant of the Roberts out in the cold. Who would have thought that... Ah!"
She looked a little haggard. Although she was well-dressed, she looked much thinner. Few wrinkles were still visible on her face despite how meticulously she cared for it.
After all that pretense, the last sentence was the main point of her visit. I paused and said, "When that incident happened to your family, Hendrix and I were going to help you, but I got injured, and something came up with Hendrix's company, so we had to put it off. Do let us know if you need anything."
In this world, one's funeral was definitely the most difficult thing to deal with. The Granger family was powerful, but they didn't have many descendants. As a young widow, Nerissa naturally had a lot of things to deal with.
Originally, it was Irvin's duty to do all of this. However, Helen had just passed. So, he now had to mourn for her. This was a huge tragedy in his life and he had no choice but to face it.
Hearing this, Nerissa breathed a sigh of relief and said with a smile, "It's not a big deal. The Roberts Mansion is empty and it's really lonely as I'm living there without Irvin. If you don't mind moving in, you can stay with me for a few days. After Uncle Granger is buried, everything will be back to normal."
