I frowned; it was true, I did know all these things. When Yohannes died, Nerissa had used these against Helen to force her into insanity. Later on, when Helen couldn't bear to live with herself any longer because of what she had learned, she leaped to her death.
But I had never told anyone about these things. So, how...
Hendrix looked at me with a slight frown on his face. "Did you do this?"
I shook my head. "No!"
Hendrix nodded. He looked at Nerissa and said coldly, "If she says it's not her, then it definitely isn't. You'd better show me proof for your claims; otherwise, if you touch her again, I won't be so courteous the next time."
Nerissa looked at him in bewilderment. She was so angry that she had to force the words out. "Hendrix, you're an idiot. All three members of the Granger family are dead, and only she and I are the only ones who know these things. Why would I do this to myself?"
Hendrix's face was expressionless. "Then show your proof before you accuse her of this."
After that, Hendrix pulled me out of the kitchen and led me upstairs.
I took the first aid kit from Minnie and followed him into the bedroom.
In the bedroom.
I lowered my head as I cleaned Hendrix's wounds. Some of the blood had already dried up into blood clots that were stuck in the open wound.
"Does it hurt?" One's hand was the most sensitive part of the body. With his palm bearing the brunt of the injury, he must be in quite a fair level of pain.
Yet, he shook his head and smiled, "Are you worried?"
I pursed my lips and sighed, "Don't be so impulsive next time."
"Dummy!" He stretched his hand out to touch my face, and his eyes were deep and dark as he gazed into mine. "A woman's face is so precious. You have to learn to dodge next time, okay?"
I nodded and bandaged his wound for him. I could not help but sigh, "It seems like someone has stuck their nose in Aunt Nerissa's business."
I sighed. "I'm just very worried about them. You told me before that Doctor Saunders was in Mesville, so I asked him to keep an eye out for Joe and Monique, but he hasn't gotten back to me about them."
After the wound was bandaged, Hendrix pulled me to sit next to him and calmly asked, "Can we sit down and talk about this, please?"
It was rare for him to have so much patience when talking to me. I nodded, looked at him and said, "You start!"
"The weather in Mesville is at least ten degrees colder than that in Jarold City, and you've only just recovered. Do you understand that it's not the best time to go to Mesville right now?"
I nodded.
He hugged me tight and continued to say, "Also, Charles wants to hold a grander welcome party for you, and it'll definitely happen before the new year. Plus, you've been planning on how to deal with Valerie for so long, and it'll come to fruition soon. Don't you want to stay and watch things play out?"
I was taken aback for a few seconds. Then, I looked up at him in surprise and said, "You... you knew this whole time?"
He smiled and scratched his nose, "How else would you think it was that easy for a woman like Kelsey to get intel that you can't even get your hands on in Jarold City?"
