I stopped her and said, "It's okay if I can't find them. Maybe I left them in the villa, or dropped them somewhere else. You go first. I'll redo the procedure again."
"It's not that easy. You'd just gotten your documents together. If you put in another application again, they will definitely request to verify your identity again. It would take another two weeks at least."
It really was the only way.
Naomi's anxiety was palpable. She looked at me and said, "Arianna, listen to me. This time, we'll go to every store and look in the trash cans. I think well find it there."
"Why are we looking in the trash cans?" I asked, perplexed.
She thought for a moment and said, "It's hard to explain. Let's go look first."
After saying that, she took me to look in the trash cans of all the stores, also asking if the store assistants had thrown them out.
Although I didn't understand what she meant, I still followed.
"I found it!" I had lost count of the number of stores we had visited before she finally found my documents in one. "I really found them!" she said excitedly.
I was stunned for a moment as I saw her taking the documents out from the trash.
Sebastian wasn't better off. It seemed that he had never expected this.
Naomi handed the documents to me and said, "See if there's anything missing."
Then, she walked to the store assistant, furious. "What's wrong with you guys? Shouldn't you put stuff like this away first to see if anyone would come back to look for it, or return it to them when you know it's here? How could you throw such important things into the trash?"
The store assistant was also confused. She was also surprised by the sudden appearance of the documents since we had come back and forth looking for it twice.
She immediately shook her head and said, "It wasn't us who threw those away. We have never seen these documents before. There are security cameras here, you can take a look at the footage. We never would've done that."
