Chapter 146 Unexpected Arrival
“I’ll come back later for a drink with you all.”
Emyr glanced at them briefly before maneuvering his wheelchair out of the room.
Veronica’s face lit up with excitement as she hurried to follow him. “Thank you, Mr. Emyr.
She could hardly believe it; her legs almost gave out beneath her.

In all her years, she had never experienced the feeling of being the center of attention the kind of attention that came from being favored by such an admired man.
It felt amazing.
Back at Keon’s welcome banquet, she could only watch in envy as everyone talked about Charmaine.
But now, she was the one in Charmaine’s place, basking in the honor that countless women dreamed of. The more Veronica thought about it, the bigger her smile grew, and the deeper her greed took root.
Meanwhile, outside the hotel, a taxi pulled up to the grand entrance. Charmaine stepped out, checked in at the front desk, and was escorted to a private dining room on the fortieth floor.
“Miss, the guests are in room 4004, just ahead.”
“Got it.
Just as Charmaine took a step forward, a sweet and eager female voice echoed behind her. “Mr. Emyr, this way.”
Way.”
Charmaine paused, turning to see Veronica beaming with happiness, glancing back at Emyr behind her as she walked.
Raising an eyebrow, Charmaine locked eyes with Emyr, who was already looking at her, his gaze unwavering.
Across the six or seven feet of the hotel hallway, they stared at each other.
“So this is why you skipped dinner at home–meeting with a lovely companion, huh?” Charmaine drawled, her tone full of meaning.
She couldn’t help but smirk at the brief flicker of panic in Veronica’s eyes.
Charmaine found it amusing. How did timid little Veronica suddenly get so bold, daring to deceive Emyr of all people?
Did she not realize that if the truth came out, she’d be finished?
Veronica quickly regained her composure and spoke up first. “I invited Mr. Emyr here, Charmaine. Are you trying to question him now?”

Chapter 116 Unexpected Arrival
Veronica hesitated, feeling unsure, and instinctively glanced at Emyr.
But Emyr wasn’t paying attention to her. His dark eyes were fixed on Charmaine.
His brow furrowed. “What are you doing here?”
Charmaine replied casually, “Taking care of some old business. I’ll head in first–enjoy yourself.”
With that, she walked into the private room without looking back.
As the door opened slightly. Emyr caught a glimpse of Bennett inside.
His gaze darkened, and a heavy feeling settled in his chest.

Despite the cool air from the hallway’s air conditioning, an inexplicable restlessness churned inside him. When Veronica had pleaded with him earlier, his thoughts had inexplicably drifted to Charmaine.
Charmaine’s situation–whether at the Reads or the Nelsons–was far more difficult than Veronica’s, yet Veronica still knew how to seek him out for support. Meanwhile, Charmaine, sharp–tongued and clever as she
was, had never once come to him for help.
Even after he had helped her, she always found a way to get under his skin.
Countless women vied for the title of his fiancée, yet Charmaine acted as if being with him was some kind of burden. Now, she wouldn’t even waste an extra word on him.
