Chapter 173 To Face Consequences for Changing Someone’s Destiny
Sophie took several rides before arriving at the border of Sunset Hillls.
When she set off from Eragos, she looked fresh and bright.
But by the time she had reached Sunset Hills, her white leather shoes were covered in yellow mud, and she was completely exhausted.
Halfway up the mountain, she finally reached the doorstep of her home.
Animal bones wrapped in red canvas hung swaying under the eaves.
The musty odor hit Sophie the moment she pushed open the dilapidated door, forcing her to cover her
nose.
The interior was shrouded in an eerie gloom that sent a shiver down her spine.
“Dad? Are you home?”
She cautiously peeked inside. Suddenly, a voice, heavy with age and weariness, startled her. “What are you doing here?” Sophie whirled around to face a gaunt, skeletal old man.
“Dad!”
Sophie had one hand on her chest. “You scared me.”
Flory hunched over and entered the house.
On the center table in the gloomy living room, there was a black and white photo of a young lady.
Flory bent over and struggled to pull out a cracked, mud–stained porcelain mug from the drawer.
“Don’t you have a more decent mug?” Sophie pursed her lips.
Flory ignored her. He rinsed the mug a couple of times to make sure that it was clean, poured some water, and placed it in front of a black and white photo.
His voice lowered, with a hint of tenderness. “I caught a catfish in the river today. Do you want it pan–seared or baked? How about we fry it? Maybe it’s not a good idea. It might irritate your throat.”
Sophie, who was parched from a day of traveling, felt completely ignored. She felt a bit annoyed and walked to Flory’s side.
“How long do you want to play dumb and act foolish? Before Mom passed away, she made you promise to take good care of me. Now, your daughter and granddaughter are barely getting by,” she said with a sharp voice.
Flory turned his head around slowly.
On his wrinkled face, a pair of cloudy eyes stared at Sophie intently.
“I had helped you once. It was your insatiable greed that has led to this.”
“Dad! People strive for a better life. If it weren’t for Bennett’s idea back then, relying on us to farm and grow

education, enjoy the best of everything, become someone successful, and our family can establish ourselves in Eragos, our future will only get better!”
“I have also warned that if you try to change someone’s destiny, you will have to bear the consequences,
“What consequences? We are not committing any heinous acts, are we? Have we killed someone or committed arson?”
Sophie was dismissive. “Charmaine is now back. If it weren’t for her meddling and refusing to donate her kidney to Leah, we wouldn’t be in such a mess!”
Flory looked at the hatred and malice on his daughter’s face–like a hideous beast with an ugly face–and turned away.
He looked at the woman in the photo with a faint smile on her lips, and after a while, he spoke slowly.
“So now what?”
