In the blink of an eye, the room fell into a heavy silence, as if everyone was too scared to even take a breath.
The sharp, jarring crash had been so loud that even Valda, who had been resting quietly in her room, was startled. Her heart raced as she rushed out, her face pale with shock.
At the sight of the shattered vase, the elderly woman’s knees buckled, and she almost collapsed. Tears flooded her eyes as she let out a desperate wail, “Oh no, that vase has been in our family for generations! It represents the Nelson family’s prosperity and unity! Who knocked it over?!”
Willard’s face tightened with discomfort, his voice laced with tension as he barked at the butler, “Find someone who can fix this. Get an expert!”
Valda’s sobs faltered as she struggled to speak, her finger shaking with anger as she pointed at Willard from the top of the stairs.
Willard clenched his fists. “Jonah, find out who did this.”
Before Jonah could speak, Olympia couldn’t hold herself back anymore. She quickly laid out the entire situation, confessing the truth.
Willard’s face darkened with fury.
“Damn that Rex! He’s gone way too far!”
Olympia’s chest tightened with guilt. “This is all my fault. If I hadn’t acted on impulse, Rex wouldn’t have been provoked.”
Valda, still grieving over the broken vase, was soon hit with the news that the Nelson Group was under attack. Her face soured in an instant.
“Family issues should stay within the family! If Zayn messed up, why not correct him in private? Why bring this outside and make a spectacle of it? He’s from such humble beginnings, and now with Master Field still hanging around, are you trying to ruin us? Is that your plan? Have you had enough of living well?”
Olympia lowered her head, feeling ashamed at the scolding.
Willard felt hesitant to direct the blame at his wife, but he couldn’t deny the weight of the company’s
troubles.
Frustration consumed him.
Just then, Leah rushed out and positioned herself in front of Olympia. “Grandma, Dad … If you want to blame anyone, blame me. If I hadn’t told Mom about Zayn, she wouldn’t have gone to the orphanage and bumped into Rex. All of this is on me. If anyone deserves punishment, it’s me!”
“Leah…”
Olympia’s heart clenched as she watched her daughter defend her without hesitation. It moved her deeply.
“No, Leah, it’s not your fault. You don’t have to protect me.”

She slammed her cane on the floor with a heavy thud, her heart racing as she looked at the already shattered vase. “This is a sign of bad luck! The vase passed down through the generations is broken–that’s bad omen! For 18 years, the Nelsons have had good fortune, but now, this year, it’s all falling apart …”
Olympia’s expression darkened, her anger shifting to Charmaine. “It’s all because of that troublemaker, Charmaine! Ever since she showed up, our family’s been a mess!”
Valda’s face grew cold, and she muttered under her breath, “I’ll pick a good day to go to Mount Hyrul. I’ll ask the abbot for help. We need to clear the bad luck hanging over us.”
Willard’s eyes flickered at her words, his face unreadable as he contemplated the situation in silence.
By the end of the year, Bennett’s new business had finally launched, and the factory was ready to begin production.
