It was already past 2:00 a.m. when Charmaine messaged Celeste to let her know she had safely arrived from Ledo. After a quick wash, she collapsed into bed, ready to sleep for hours.
She didn’t stir until the next morning, when the clock read 11:00 a.m.
Stretching and yawning, Charmaine grabbed her phone and saw a message from Emyr that had come two hours earlier, asking if she was awake.
She leaned back against the headboard and replied lazily, “Just woke up. Why didn’t you sleep in a bit longer?”
Emyr wrote back, “I had the annual corporate summary meeting this morning. Just finished. What do you want to eat?”
Charmaine remembered the food recommendations Celeste had sent her earlier. “I heard Sudbay’s roasted chicken is really good. Want to try it?”
If it’s as good as people say, I can
earn how to make it myself and bring it home for my mentors and Rex to try.
Emyr’s response was quick. “Okay get ready. We’re leaving in 15 minutes.”
Charmaine sent a quick reply and jumped out of bed, got dressed and ready in a hurry.
Once they were in the car, they exchanged a few casual words. But soon, Charmaine spotted a huge natural stone barrier ahead.
Engraved deeply in the stone were three powerful words, Mount Hyrul Monastery.
Mount Hyrul Monastery was a well–known name in Valasia, with a long history and a steady flow of believers throughout the year.
Charmaine raised an eyebrow, confused. “I thought we were going for roasted chicken? Why are we headed to a monastery?”
Emyr’s face remained expressionless, his voice calm as ever. “The best roasted chicken in all of Sudbay is served at the monastery.”
Charmaine stared at him, her eyes wide in disbelief.
Elsewhere in the city, the Nelson family had been up early, performing their religious rituals. After two hours of praying, they ate a light vegetarian meal before retreating to the back hall to rest.
After Leah kneeled for nearly two hours, her calves started to go numb, almost losing all feeling.
She glanced around, feeling a touch of bitterness as she saw Valda and Olympia continuing their praying. They were so focused and pious that Leah rolled her eyes in disdain, lowering her gaze.
What good is all this praying? Isn’t my Divine Fortune more useful than any of this?

Leah quickly replaced her pout with a bright smile, lifting her head. “Where are we going, Dad?”

Willard gave a serious nod, his voice thick with meaning. “I’m taking you to meet someone. Because of him, you and I have the bond we do.”
Leah was puzzled, but she followed Willard out of the hall without question,
They walked across the main hall and through a door located in the west, they entered a small annex.
At the entrance to the annex, a group of people stood, watching expectantly. As soon as they saw Willard and Leah, their sharp eyes turned toward them, scrutinizing their every move.
Willard didn’t acknowledge them. He walked straight past them, heading into the courtyard.
It was cold on the mountain, and a young monk was sweeping snow off the ground.
Willard stepped forward and folded his hands together, bowing slightly. “Is Abbot Blaer in the hall?”
The young monk returned the bow. “The abbot has an appointment today. Please come back another time, sir.”
