It was dark 

It was so dark and cold. 

Henry heard some noises and someone whispering in his ear, encouraging him to hang on there.

seemed so far away from him. 

He felt he was as light as a feather, drifting in a pitch–black tunnel. 

At the end of the tunnel, there was a faint light. He wondered where it led. 

He was scared to go there. He thought, Is it leading to Heaven? Or Hell? 

Am I already dead? 

He wondered if Madeline was alright. He hoped she was safe. 

He felt like his body seemed to be drifting in the air like a leaf, slowly moving toward the faint light. 

He wanted to walk backward but there was an unnatural force that he couldn’t fight. 

Time seemed to be incredibly slow. 

Suddenly, Henry heard a familiar voice coming from that faint light. The blinding light made him raise a hand to shield his eyes from it. 

It was the Larson residence. 

It was snowing heavily and the ground was covered in snow 

Winslet and his mother were standing at the gate of the house. 

Her mother was wearing a fur coat as she always did in winter. Winslet was beside her. She was still very pretty and cautiously protected by Layla, Henry finally arrived there. 

He wondered if the end of the tunnel was a symbol of his memories. 

Henry was a bit surprised. 

It was snowing heavily. The sky was pure white. He fell so cold. It was freezing 

A girl stood with her back facing him at the bottom of the steps in front of the house. She looked frail, dressed in worn clothes. A small suitcase was at her feet. She was wearing a pair of cheap shoes that could barely keep her feet warm. 

He recognized Madeline immediately although he could only see her back. 

He murmured, “Madeline” 

Henry reached out to grab her arm but his hand went through her body. 

He could only stand there and watch everything happen. Nobody could see him or hear him 

The little girl stood still, looking at the elegantly dressed woman on the steps, a bit lost in thought. She wondered if this woman was her mother and why she was hand in hand with a pretty girl, 

The Hule girl clutched the hem of her dress. “Mom”

Layla slightly nodded with a calm and indifferent look. “Madeline, you’re back home now. 

“But I want to make something clear to you. Although you’re my daughter, you didn’t grow up 

with me.

Madeline turned around, with her eyes and the tip of her nose turning red. Her tiny little face was pale. She looked helpless and puzzled. 

Henry raised his hand and gently touched the corner of her eyes. “Don’t cry, Maddie. They don’t like you but I do.” 

The snow fell on the ground silently.

Mary walked out of the house and picked up Madeline’s suitcase. “Ms. Larson, don’t just stand there. It’s so cold! I’m Mary. If you need anything in the future, ask me. 

Madeline followed behind Mary, hesitantly asking. “Mary, does my Mom love me? They do not want me to come back here?” 

Madeline murmured softly, feeling hun, “I went through so much trouble to find my family. I tried so hard to return here.” 

Mary turned around and gently patted Madeline’s head. “Ms. Larson, Mrs. Larson just doesn’t know how to get along with you. You have five brothers. They are all outstanding. They’ll love you.” 

Madeline’s eyes lit up. “I have brothers?” 

Mary said, “Yes, they heard you’re coming back and are on their way home. Mr. Larson asked us to make a nice meal to celebrate.”
