She was taken aback and stuttered, “Henry, what… What’s wrong with your fer been by your side this whole time. How can you call me cruel?
Henry just looked at Layla
Layla was consumed by worry. She remained at the hospital constantly, personally caring for Henry during his time in the ICU and after he was transferred to the general ward.
Layla was so meticulous and attentive, even more so than the caregivers
She appeared a bit tired, with dark circles under her eyes. Usually, no matter how tough times were, she kept a decent look, but now her hairwai slightly messy.
Layla looked belplessly at Henry and asked, “Son, what’s wrong! Are you still not feeling well! Let me call the doctor. Your dad will be here soon, He’s gone to get some food.”
Henry’s face was filled with anguish as he looked seriously at Layla and asked, “How’s Madelier
Layla replied. “She’s fine.
“Nothing much happened with her. She came to visit you a few times at the hospital, but it seems she’s gone back to Accester for her finals. She’s planning to study in the capital next semester,”
Layla didn’t dare say more, deeply surprised by Henry’s reaction.
Layla couldn’t understand why her precious son was looking at her with such a hateful expression.
What exactly happened?
Layla couldn’t understand it and didn’t dare to dwell on it. She just hoped Henry was temporarily unwell, and that was why he way taking it out on
her.
Henry stayed silent, closing his eyes and slowing his breathing.
He struggled to cope w
with those memories alongside the reality he faced.
The Larson family once engaged in evil deeds, directly or indirectly forcing Madeline into a corner. Her death was closely related to them
Henry’s pale hand connected to the IV line twitched slightly, feeling quite stiff.
Warm liquid dripped down from above, drop by drop.
Henry knew Layla was silently crying, and he felt extreme pain and torment himself.
It wasn’t long before Thomas showed up.
Thomas was initially cheerful, but his steps stopped when he saw what was going on in the ward. Thomas asked, “W
“What’s happening here?”
Layla didn’t say anything, leaving with her head down, crying.
Thomas glanced at Henry in the bed and placed the food he brought on the table.
Henry sat by the bed, gently tapping Henry’s hand, and asked, “What’s wrong with you? Are you not feeling well”
Henry wad, “Dad. What should I do if I was responsible for someone’s death?”
Thomas was somewhat surprised. After pausing to think, he hesitated to make any guesses about what had happened and simply said, “Well in depends on whether it was intentional. If it was intentional, then you’d be legally responsible. Even if it was unintentional, you needed to make amends and compensate. If it’s the latter, you’ll be tortured inside, but you shouldn’t completely lose hope!
Thomas didn’t kno
the real situation, but seeing Henry in such pain, he knew Henry must be feeling awful
Thomas said. “Henry, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, you can talk to me about it. Look, you just barely survived. Feeling upset and depressed suit good for your teclivery
Henry opened his eyes, las vision blurry as tears made them sting. He said. “I killed the person I was closest to. Maybe I shouldnt even be alive. Why am I still alive?

Chapter 274
Thomas looked at Henry and asked, “Henry, what happened to you?”
Henry stayed silent.
Time slowly ticked by.
The only sound in the ward was the clock ticking, making the silence feel unusually heavy.
Outside the ward, Layla wiped her tears with a tissue, feeling a mix of frustration, exhaustion, and a deep sense of helplessness.
“Mrs. Larson, your son is awake now. As long as he takes good care of himself, he will recover soon. Stop crying. You should be happy the nurse said, pausing as she passed by with a bottle of medicine, to offer some comfort.
Henry was an extremely handsome patient, and his whole family was strikingly attractive. It was hard for anyone not to notice them.
The nurse added, “You need to make sure you rest too. Don’t wear yourself out taking care of him.”
Layla nodded with a bitter smile and said, “Yes, and thank you all so much.”
