Eugene slept on the couch. Since he was tall, the small couch felt a bit cramped for him. 

He stared at the ceiling his mind filled with thoughts about the camellias from that year.

“Are you Ms. Larson? This is a gift from Mr. Sharp,” said a stranger delivering the flowers.

It was only after the deliveryman left that Madeline walked over, still a bit dazed. 

The camellia leaves were dark green, and the blossoms were a slightly dark red. The petals were thick and incredibly delicate, but not fragile at all. The yellow stamens had no fragrance even up close. 

It was surprising that vibrant flowers blossomed even in the harshest winters. 

Madeline raised her hand and gently touched the camellia petals.

When Eugene returned to his house, he sneezed

The streets were bustling with people. Even in such cold weather, people still braved the elements to stick to their routines.
