He asked, “So, you’re standing here not to play with the dog, but for what exactly?” 

Madeline’s heart sank. She casually petted the dog and, raising her chin deliberately, said, “You’re a stranger, and out of nowhere you asked me to name your dog and even called me lovely. We’re not close. Are you doing this because you think I’m attractive and want to hit on me?” Madeline wanted to get rid of this young man with an unknown background, so she decided to speak bluntly, with an air of overconfidence.

Madeline turned and began walking in another direction. However, it had snowed a few days ago, and the ground was still slippery. After a few steps, she slipped on some ice and lost her balance.
