Colby was in a terrible mood.
Kaden treated everyone with the utmost respect, but his attitude turned aloof when speaking to him as if he owed the man five million dollars.
In fact, he had even critiqued the way he governed Capiton.
He felt embarrassed being on the receiving end of criticism from his peers and thus left the room on the pretext of needing the washroom.
“The Mares’ son-in-law is not a force to be reckoned with!” Reagan muttered in a low voice.
Colby frowned. “What’s the deal with him?"
Reagan leaned forward to whisper into Colby’s ear how Nash had figured out who she was.
Colby knitted his eyebrows together and glared at Reagan. “I told you to keep a low profile, but you refused to listen. Do you really think that everyone around you is an idiot?”
Reagan pouted. “Well, I had no idea he would think in that direction!"
“That’s enough. Go work on what you need to do. I’ll go meet that young man!” Colby clasped his hands behind his back as he walked toward his office.
Zeke and James stood in the governor’s office, too afraid to take loud breaths. Waiting for the governor’s arrival felt like waiting for a death sentence.
Nash slowly opened his eyes when he heard footsteps approaching.
Colby pushed the door open with a solemn and majestic look on his face. The authoritative aura he emanated had Zeke and James immediately lowering their heads.
“Who allowed you to sit down?” Colby asked as he glared at Nash.
“I’ve got a bad back. It hurts if I remain standing for too long!” Nash said calmly, seemingly showing no regard for Colby.
“You managed to defeat a martial artist who’s achieved the Profound Reality Realm, but you’re telling me you’ve got a bad back?”
A look of anger appeared on Colby’s face. “Young and ruthless! Do you really think you can get away with anything just because you know some martial arts?”
The corner of Nash’s lips curved upward into a sneer. “Aren’t you the one who’s thinking you can get away with anything?”
He got to his feet, his six-foot-tall stature making him half a head taller than Colby.
A cold look appeared in his eyes as he made eye contact with Colby. “Nalarov has made a name for himself as the Dragon King of Capiton's underground and owns dozens of promiscuous businesses. He’s managed to stay afloat because he’s got you on his side, right?”
The authoritative aura Nash emanated easily crushed the bureaucratic prowess Colby had cultivated after a long while on the job.
