Richard raised his head. Then he flung away her wrist. He scanned Pearl's face slowly. His voice were cold and frightening.
"Do you know how much I hate to see your face?"
Every night, this face showed up in his dreams. Every night! Wasn't that enough? Why did she show up in front of him now?
Pearl was shocked.
She blankly looked at his cold and disgusted eyes. She suddenly felt thirsty and could not even breathe.
Yes, he hated her!
She did not want him to see her sadness. So she pretended to be cool and move her eyes to his hands. She turned back to get some medical tape, trying hard to speak to him with a normal voice.
"You're my patient."
But when she tore off three small section of the tape to fix his needle again, Richard's indifferent voice rang in her ears with some disgust.
"Get out !"
Her hands frozen. And something in her eyes was quivering. But at last she tried her best to find her voice. She withdrew her hand and said, "Then, I'll get a nurse to do with it."
"I don't want to say it again." Richard's voice became colder and harsher with pressure.
Instantly, the tension was palpable in the ward .
He felt so sick to see her.
Sadness and bitterness was amounting in her heart, and she could only replied "Okay." She put away the stethoscope as well as the test report. And she added carefully, "Okay... If you need anything, please ring the bell ."
In response, she got silence.
The man there zipped his lips. He did not speak a word so that she dared not approach him.
