"What exactly do you want to know, Pearl?"
"Then what do you know about it?"
Perhaps it was because of the lighting in the restaurant, but Alexander's face turned pale inexplicably as if mentioning this was a very difficult thing for him.
Alexander took a sip of water. Looks like he tried to calm himself down.
"You were pregnant...after that night, right?"
Hearing this, Pearl didn't deny it, nor did she admit it.
But in Alexander's eyes, it was a tacit admission.
He instantly apologised, "sorry, I shouldn't have asked you about this."
For people like Alexander, if you did not put a knife on his neck to force him to speak, he would never admit that he had made a mistake.
Pearl became a little impatient, "Alexander, did that accident have something to do with you?"
Since he knew what had happened to her that year, then let's put the biggest crime on his head directly. When people were wronged, it was the easiest for them to reveal their flaws.
People always choose the lesser of two evils.
Sure enough, Alexander's face changed immediately, "No, I have nothing to do with it."
"Did you put drug into my juice?"
"Of course not. How is that possible?"
"Then how do you know the truth?"
"That night..." Alexander tightly clenched his cup and trembled slightly, "I just passed by that night. Really, I didn't expect that you would encounter such a thing. I dared not interfere, because there were too many people."
The phrase "too many people" struck Pearl's eardrums like a needle.
Her whole body went stiff.
Indeed, there were many people. Although she was drugged that day, in her vague memory, there were many people walking toward her. Tall, short, fat, and thin, there were all kinds of people.
She forced herself to calm down, "You passed by that alley? Really?"
"Pearl, you have to believe me. I really liked you back then. How could I possibly do such thing to you? That day, I made a bet with my classmates and said that I was going to confess my love to you..."
Seven years ago, Alexander, as the president of the school's Public Relations Department, was invited to that graduation party as well. Initially, he didn't want to attend, but finally he went there when he heard that Pearl had accompanied her best friend to the party.
Before they went to the party, the boys in his dormitory laughed at him saying he was a coward. He had not officially confessed his love to Pearl even after four years of liking her. If she didn't stay at school for her PhD, he would have no chance at all.
Alexander wasn't easily provoked, but probably because of party vibe, he made a solemn bet that he would confess to her.
At the graduation party of the Foreign Language Department, he wanted to talk to Pearl alone many times, but failed. It was because of nervousness that he knocked over the juice in her hand accidentally.
"I thought of a lot of words and even typed out drafts. But you were with your bestie almost the entire time, so I didn't have a chance."
Alexander's voice grew muffled.
Pearl didn't know how trustworthy his words were, but he was one of the few people who could talk to her about the details of the graduation party seven years ago.
