Chapter 191
“Selina, what seasoning do you use? Can I have a taste?” It was not just greed. As a chef, Lance was very curious about how Selina had prepared the braised salmon. The aroma was incredibly enticing.
Selina smiled slightly. “Have a taste, Mr. Hilcast. Lydia and I exceeded our task quota today, so there’s plenty of ingredients.”
Lydia protested, “Ah, Selina…“.
“Don’t worry, Lydia. While we’re on this variety show, I’ll be cooking every day. I’ll make sure there’s enough for you. Just relax,” Selina assured her.
Lydia faked sobbing. It was not that Lydia was stingy, but when it came to Selina’s cooking, Lydia could eat it all. Normally, she was not picky about food, but when it came to Selina’s dishes, they were too precious!
“You can only have one bite, Mr. Hilcast,” Lydia said cautiously, looking at Lance. She had struggled internally before reluctantly agreeing.
“Brat, you’re being ridiculous. I’m not going to eat it all, am I?” Lance could not help but laugh, thinking Lydia seemed like a cool and sharp–tongued sister. Yet, when it came to food, she was surprisingly adorable.
He picked up the clean chopsticks Selina had prepared and took a bite, savoring it carefully. His eyes immediately lit up as he took a second bite, this time with the seasoning Selina had mixed in. It tasted even better!
After the first and second bites, his instincts drove him to reach for a third. But Lydia protectively snatched the braised salmon away. “Mr. Hilcast! We agreed on one bite, and now you’re on your third!”
Lance snapped back to reality. “Oh, sorry about that. It’s just so delicious. I couldn’t help myself. Selina, your seasoning and the way you control the heat are spot on. The salmon is tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. I’ve been cooking for years, and I can’t make something- that tastes like this. Who taught you?”
Selina replied, “I taught myself through videos and books. It just took time and a lot of trial
and error.
“Self–taught?” Lance said loudly. He was astonished, thinking, This girl was a culinary genius? She didn’t have a mentor, yet she was already this skilled. The dish seemed simple and was a standard recipe, familiar to most chefs. But because it was so common, people had eaten it

countless times. To make a version that truly satisfied the palate was no easy task. It was far harder than creating something new and exotic.
Lance’s booming voice echoed through the room just as Ashley walked in.
Lance, Selina, and Lydia were in the dining room. The scent of food filled the air, making Ashley unconsciously swallow. She suddenly realized how hungry she was.
With her sprained ankle, Ashley could not go up the mountain to gather herbs with Joseph and Garrett. After the doctor bandaged her up, she could barely walk. She figured she could use the remaining ingredients to make some buns for Joseph and Garrett, as they would need energy for lunch.
Staying in the clinic all day would have made her look bad, so this was a chance to redeem herself a bit.
“No way, I need to rest for a while. Maybe I’ll go outside for some fresh air.” Looking defeated, Lance began to head outside.
“Did I do something to hurt Mr. Hilcast?” Selina asked innocently, blinking her eyes.
“Don’t worry, Selina, you’re just extremely talented. Out of the world’s six or seven billion gone, people, a few geniuses are bound to emerge. Let’s eat, let’s eat.” Now that Lance was Lydia could finally enjoy her meal. Having lost three bites to Lance, she had been pained by the loss. She could now enjoy the braised salmon without competition.
As Lance stepped out of the dining room, he bumped into Ashley. Noticing her ankle was bandaged, and she was hobbling with a crutch, he was taken aback. “Ashley, are you all right? What happened?”
Ashley replied, “Mr. Hilcast, I’m fine. It was just a small accident. I hurt my foot. What were you doing in the dining room with Selina and Lydia?”
Lance explained, “Selina’s cooking was too good to resist. I couldn’t help myself and tried a few bites. I only wish Max and the others could bring back a fish so I could learn how to make this braised salmon from her.”
Ashley said nothing, but her expression changed.
She thought, Is Selina’s cooking really that good? It’s just braised salmon. Who hadn’t eaten that before? It wasn’t some grand banquet, So why was Lance drooling and reminiscing about it sa enthusiastically? And worse, he’s praising Selina so openly on a live stream, implicitly making me look bad in comparison. The better Selina performed, the more I’m going to be ridiculed in comparison. On day one, I lost. On day two, I lost again!”

With countless eyes watching the live stream, even though Ashley’s facial expression shifted quickly, some sharp viewers caught the change.
One netizen commented: [I think I just saw someone’s face twitch. Seeing Selina shine must be killing them inside.]
Another netizen replied: [You’re so mean! She’s just calling Selina sweetly, like a little pitiful thing. How could you think so badly of an innocent and kind–hearted beauty?]
