Chapter 2
Sara Harvey was chilling on the plush VIP sofa in the Chanel boutique, rubbing her forehead.
The Harvey family had recently found their long–lost daughter. Selina, after twenty–one years, and at first, Sara was pretty stoked about the reunion. But once she got to hang out with Selina, she realized her daughter was more awkward than a fish out of water, especially compared to Ashley. Raised in the Harvey residence, schooled in the finest institutions, and groomed in the arts, Ashley was the epitome of class.
The more Sara saw them side by side, the more out of place Selina seemed. Her manners around the house screamed out of touch, coming off more like a sneaky servant than Harvey material. And with her upcoming marriage into the Clark family, Selina’s antics just didn’t cut it.
“Mom, shopping’s done.” Ashley’s sweet voice broke into Sara’s thoughts.
Sara’s
ra’s face lit up at Ashley. “That’s wonderful. Selina, why are you still dressed like that? Trash it. Slip into the new Chanel you got.”
Sara couldn’t stand how Selina’s bargain–bin look, complete with a basic white tee, jeans, and sneakers, clashes with the Harvey unage. They had nothing against the less fortunate, but as a Harvey, her getup was a no–go, especially next to Ashley, the picture of perfection. With both girls there, Sara felt let down by Selina.
Ashley added, “Mom, I told Selina she’d look tabs in the Chanel”
Selina cut in, Tm good as I a

“Good! What’s good about this? Your sister’s looking out for you
Selina interrupted, “Oh bothered? Then you live with it.”
Sara gaped at her. “Excuse me! What’s that attitude”
Is this the same Selina who nnds along, eager to please? Now she’s giving me–her mother–the cold shoulder! Sara thought.
“I’m tired. I’m heading out, and oh. Eve got news to drop”
Selina marched off, hand in her pocket, done with the whole Harvey drama. Just being near them made her stomach tarm

Astore clerk rushed over. “Miss, let’s take a look in your bag, please”
Sara snarled, “Selina, caught stealing–again!”
After Selina moved back in with the Harvey family, things were stolen twice. No one found the stolen stuff with Selina, but suspicion was all on her. their servants, with top–notch references, hadn’t slipped up once in years.
The Harvey family has their doubts the first time. The second! They turned up diamond shards in Selina’s pants–parts of the jewelry that was missing.
Selina strongly said she didn’t steal, but the Harvey family was starting to doubt her. She had been gone for 21 years and was raised out in the sticks, so they thought she might have picked up bad habits like stealing. They were willing to overlook some trouble at home, thinking she needed time to adapt. But shoplifting at Chanel? That was just too embarrassing for Sara and the whole Harvey family.
Sara was livid. “Give back what you stole and apologize
“Calm down, Mom. We don’t even know if there’s a real problem. Maybe the alarm messed up h’s not like Selina to steal, said Ashley
“Ashley, cut it out with sympathy. You’re too naive. You’re just letting Selina slide again and again”
“Mom..” Ashley hit her lip, looking like a deer caught in the headlights, glancing over at Selina with big, sad eyes,
Selina just stared back, a him of a
smirk on her face.
Sara jabbed a finger at Selina. “Aren’t you gonna say sorry? What are you waiting for!”
The store staff were on pins and needles, throwing each other looks. They we
were only doing their job, and they figured there was no way Selina, Sara’s plus–one, could’ve taken something. They sure didn’t see this blowup coming–Sara blasting Selina and demanding that she apologize. Looking at Selina’s plain Jane getup, the staff began to wonder, ‘Is there a history here?
“If you find out 1 didn’t take anything. Mrs. Harvey, will you say sorry for accusing me?” Selina’s voice cut through the tension. Underneath her calm, there was a storm brewing.
Selina couldn’t believe it–only because a DNA test said it was a perfect match. This woman who branded her a thief, who never defended her, and who wanted to send her to a mental hospital for shock treatment, was her real mom

“You’re saying you didn’t steal! Then how come the alarm sounded the second you walked past?” Sara’s eyes were shooting daggers of doulat.
Selina said, her voice cold, “Go ahead and search me. If you don’t find anything, I want an apology, Sara”
