Chapter 39
Madelyn was taken aback, completely surprised by Selina’s sudden surrender.
Selina clapped her hands and grinned, “What’s the matter, Madelyn? Aren’t you thrilled about snagging the necklace you wanted? Or could it be you’re short on cash?”
I’ll swape my card! 6.5 million dollars ain’t no big deal? Madelyn winked at Lauren once more. Her credit card limit was 1.5 million dollars, so she needed Lauren’s assistance. Plus, to avoid Selina’s mockery, she had to pay in full. Despite her reluctance, Lauren had to pull out her bank card with a forced smile.
Meanwhile, Shannon wasn’t thrilled about handling a 6.5-
a 6.5 million–dollar transaction.
Madelyn strutted with the necklace box in hand, flaunting in haughtily. I know you’re scared Trevon will find out you’re just after his money if you splurge. Remember your words? Well, the same goes for you now. Don’t show up if the cash ain’t enough!”
“She’s just a kid, Selina. Don’t sweat it ain’t looking to start beef over this. But, she’s got a point. You’re burning through Trevon’s dough, and if you don’t wanna get on his bad side, you better watch those spending habits.”
Lauren acted all nice and friendly, trying to play the mediating role. With all that money already spent, she deemed it was a smart move to seize this chance and come out on top by putting Selina in her place.
“Haven’t you heard about it? That necklace was a design Angel ditched three years back, Canier swooped in and coughed up a good sum to grab it exclusively. They’ve pledged to donate the profits to charity. So, your cash is essentially going to be given in Angel and Cartier’s names to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Clusia’s rural teacher’s associations.”
When Madelyn heard the words “Angel ditched three years back” she assumed the necklace wasn’t worth much. She glanced at Shannon, only to find her looking surprises. “Well… Even though it was a design Angel ditched three years back, it was still her creation after all!”
Confused, Shannon wondered, ‘How did Selina find out about this though? Only top executives at Cartier are privy to this info! Shannon herself, the managerst Cartier on Galaxy Mall, had learned about it only a year ago.
“Spending 6.5 million dollars on a design Angel ditched three years back, huh? I never thought you were a big fan of hers. Madelyn Shed be pleased to have your backing. Hopefully, you bought it out of love and not hatred towards me. After all, it set you back quite a bit, didn’t it, Lauren?”
Selina mocked
“Whatever you’re saying, I won. Ain’t nothing you say gonna change the fact that this necklace was designed by Angel and Cartier. I magged the thing you were after!” Madelyn’s arrogance had faded away. Spending 6.5 million dollars on a necklace valued at 1.5 million was downrigh ridiculous, and anyone who did that was a total fool. Yet, it was Madelyn acting the fool here, unable to believe it was actually an abandoned design by Angel from three years ago.
“Congrats. Madelyn Honestly, I don’t want it as much as you might think. There are plenty of other options out there. Alright, let’s bounce, Lydia.”
“Sure” Lydia and Selina walked out of the Cartier store hand in hand.
Lauren’s victorious feeling had vanished. After saving face, she began to regret blowing that hard–earned 65 million dollars. “Let’s go, Madelyn.” Broke and disheartened, she wasn’t in the mood for any shopping,
Curious, Lydia asked, “How did you know about the necklace story, Selina! I didn’t spot it in the description.” She picked that necklace for Selina because she thought its design was awesome. Even though it was a style from three years ago, it still looked chic and stunning.
“Because I’m Angel, said Selina, winking at Lydia.
Feeling stunned, Lydia blurted out, “Holy crap! When did you start designing jewelry?”
“I do this outra passion. Every time you swung by the mountain to see me, you told me to try different stuff and figure out what I love most. I searched online for different gigs and dabbled in anything that caught my eye. ‘Angel‘ is the alias I use as a jewelry designer. One day, 1 unexpectedly got popular for some reason, and all the bling created turned into fashion must–haves Selina almost forgot these things. If she hadn’t shown up at Cartier today with Lydia and laid eyes on the discarded draft from three years past, she would’ve forgotten she was a designer. She had to admit that the hardships in her past life at the Harvey residence had messed her head.
“You always throw surprises my way, Selina. Lydia ruffled Selina’s hair and grinned, “If you could whip up a rock–style necklace for me, that’d grab everyone’s attention, no doubt!”
“No problem.” They smiled at each other.
After saying bye to Lydia, Selina hopped into the car and pulled out her phone. She scrolled through her other number’s contacts, found the WhatsApp of Jack, the head of Cartier in Clusia, and dropped him a message. Ten seconds passed, and Jack texted back. [Angell At your service! What do you need?] He had always been a cocky guy, but he held Selina in high regard.
