Never Again Yours (Isadora and Magnus) novel Chapter 391

He reached out and felt under her nose—a faint breath still lingered.

The doctors exchanged uncertain glances, caught between a rock and a hard place. Working for the Fitzgerald family was a constant tightrope walk. If Mr. Fitzgerald found out they'd saved her, who knew if they'd be the next ones driven to despair?

But with Deanna's fierce gaze burning into their backs, they had no choice but to try and save her first.

Upstairs, in the bedroom.

After Victor left, Isadora began to take in her surroundings. Her gaze finally settled on a long row of meticulously arranged model cars. Each one was crafted in precise detail, some even complete with tiny license plates.

She couldn't help but smile. To this day, she'd lost count of how many cars Victor actually owned. At the very least, since she'd met him, no one she knew swapped out cars as brazenly or as often as he did.

Her eyes wandered next to a wall lined with framed awards. Curious, she stepped closer.

Boxing, racing, swimming, mountain climbing—even a certificate for trekking through the Amazon wilderness. Each one was a testament to Victor's relentless pursuit of challenges.

Next to the awards, several black picture frames were propped up. Every single one featured Pudding, Victor's beloved dog. Some photos showed Pudding bounding across green lawns, others captured the pup curled up, fast asleep and utterly adorable.

Isadora picked up one of the frames. In the photo, a little boy stood beside Pudding.

She gently traced her finger over the boy's face—clearly a young Victor. Even as a child, his features were sharply defined; his deep-set eyes still carried a hint of innocence, making him look like a handsome little prince.

But in those eyes, even through a photograph, she could sense that air of arrogance and aloofness he'd never quite shaken.

Isadora stared at the picture, her fingertip brushing lightly over his cheek. He'd been so proud and distant, even as a kid.

The more she looked, the more a strange sense of familiarity washed over her. But for the life of her, she couldn't remember where she'd seen that look before.

Lost in thought, she was startled when her phone rang.

She set the photo back in its place and answered the call.
